What is it that you want to do? Which operating system do you use?

Check out http://www.versiontracker.com for a wide variety of shareware, freeware, open source and commercial updates, for Mac, Windows and PalmOS. And the best apps are the ones that do whatever it is you want them to!

Suppose Winrar (http://www.rarlabs.com/download.htm) is the one i'd rate.
Always comes in handy when needed. Opening zipped files etc.. :)

does anyone know which are the best shareware programmes

Why shareware in particular?

Why not freeware or GPL (or LGPL)?

Whats the difference between shareware and freeware?

Shareware require registration (usually involving a fee) that removes certain restrictions (usually)

Freeware is completely fre, requires no registration, all features are unlocked etc:).
