is there anywhere else other than the corporation that has a late license and play metal/rock that type of music on a friday or saturday night and stays open till about 2am or 3am?

I am looking to try somewhere new and was wondering if there is anything else on on a friday or saturday night that was open late. I have heard the casbar is good on a friday night, is this true and what times it open till? What's it like on a saturday night?

heya :)

nooooo the Casbah is a BAD idea :(

It used to have a rock element but due to the late license has now become a town lad and ladette mecca and gets absolutely RAMMED with muppets :(

Try if you like but be warned!

Sheffield is sadly very lacking in the metal/goth/rock/punk front. Corp and a few pubs thats it :/

I used to run a rock night in derby - how about we pitch somewhere Xtro?? I'm sure we could set something up...

And avoid the Casbah like the plague. It's utter ****e!

I would like to do that...... set somewhere up so there are more places to go that play rock/metal ect music, however i am sadly lacking money and i would not be able to do something like that on my own. Maybe something that is a cross between the corporation and cahbar, only better......

I went to casbar many many years ago when it was the wapentake(must better then) I went in to casbar one saturday night ages ago and, didn't like it. Have not been since. I just wanted to know what it was like on a friday night, but sounds bad, so somehow i doubt i will be going there on a friday night either

Hell yeah! That's why we started our own night in derby - nowhere left to go with decent tunes!! Usually the only money you'll need is for promotions... cost us about £150 for the first 2-3 months of posters and flyers. We arranged for the club to take the bar money and we took the entry fee... never made much profit on the night but kept it running for 6 months with 150 people in...

If anyone knows any potential venues... get in touch! Maybe we could run one through the forum...

Does anyone know what is happening to roxy building? That could be a good place maybe..... I was thinking about it, but like i say would need help.... anyone else had this idea to start a club?

Agent Dan

erm... perhaps a little ambitious for a new night!! I was thinking more on the size of club zero or something... hmmm... definitely got potential though!

Well i was just wondering what was happening. Maybe you could hire out a club..... perhaps city hall or somewhere like that. I was thinking about doing a night in leeds and sheffield. Can find a venue for leeds, but not sheffield........ now all i gotta get is people who want to do it as well.....
You could always do a google search or an goto alive.co.uk to see which venues do not hold a night on a certain night then you could find out which one you could hire out.
A rock night on a friday night would be good, sheffield does not seem to have one that i know of anymore........ oh apart from casbar i suppose.......

i like casbah on friday at least you get some new people unlike the same rock crowd in corporation every week.

Snakey_B

What type of music does casbah play on a friday and what are the prices like ?

MuteWitness

downstairs its rock music, ac/dc ,sabbath,reh hot chilli peppers they play new and older rock music so theres a good variaty. Upstairs on a friday play U2, smiths and it seems to me even though i dont stay upstairs much that its mainly 80s stuff

We hired out the City hall ballroom for a series of rock nights about 3 years ago......it never got off the ground and the hire rates were extortionate. Think it cost us nearly £500 for a full friday night hire, but we got all the box office. Not that that was very good, I think we got about 30 people in.....and the city hall kicked us out as the corporation wanted it for Drop. Damm...

I have the capital to finance another rock night if anyone has some ideas.....

Sheffield has always been a bit slack for alternative/rock stuff, at least, it *seemed* that way. We used to head down to Nottingham regularly to Rock City or over the hills to Manchester and Rock World.

I miss Rebels (anyone remember DJ 'Lez'?) and Rock Night at the Roxy, though. Oh - and the Palais on London road too...

I used to DJ at Rebels a loooong time ago. Did a couple of spots at the Wap/Casbah too. My mate still DJs over there occasionally, I think (DJ Rude Dog).

We played mostly goth, punk and glam (some 80s too)...this was the early/mid nineties I guess. Lots of Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Cult, Faster Pussycat, LA Guns, Damned, Dead Kennedys, Pop Will Eat Itself...stuff like that.

It was a pain carrying all our records and CDs up the stairs into Rebels. But I miss it...

We weren't very popular with some as we'd refuse to play Winger, Tyketto or any of their ilk...but I guess most people reading this post have no idea who these bands are.....

eeeeee..it were different in my day....*sigh*

if you want to venture out of sheffield, there's a place in chesterfield called the Green Room. it's okay in there sometimes, really depends who you go with though :)

it's open quite late on fri/sat nights.

If you go even further afield, Rock City in Nottingham is good. The rest of the nottingham night life is dire though.

Well i love rock and metal to the core. If everyone feels the same then why dont we seriously try and organise something.....i know people are thinking about certain nights and that would be very cool.....but it might not last forever.......if were all serious why dont we arrange once a month to rent a place out...for a rock/metal night.....or organise between ourselves to head to another city/town and go to a gig and get recked....lets do something....

D2J
02-06-2004, 20:16
hey thats sounds an awesome idea, renting a place would be cool.. Id love to be behind the decks again driving rock n metal out at extremely high decibals..

Failing that a night out in another town would be good..

Tyketto are playing at the Corporation in November, supported by Deadline. Tickets are on sale at the Classic Rock Bar.

DJ Lez is the DJ at the Classic Rock Bar on Friday nights, so if you want to relive the Rebels experience pop down!

The Classic Rock Bar plays continual rock music throughout the evening along with live rock too. We're also open to suggestions if you wanted to have a specific type of night, as you mentioned hiring out a place then we'll be happy to listen and work with you.

Well hello everyone.....this is more a message for anyone interested.......in rock and metal nights......a thred was put together in the "going out" part of this forum. Chattin bout the lack of decent venues for rock and metal nights in sheffield.

After a few posts we came up with the idea of either: Organising and hiring out a place for a rocl/metal night. or
Organising once a month to get together and go to another town/city for a rock/metal break away 80).........we just wanna get as many people as we can that love the music and are interested....either post her or go to "going out in sheffield" and psot a reply on the "Where are the late night rock and metal venues" thred.

Cheers

You don't need lots of people! All you need is the funds to spend on the first evening's promotion... we can blag a venue - usually they'd take the bar, and we'd take the door... I know *a lot* or rock djs

black_soul
03-06-2004, 13:24
Looks like the classic rock bar is getting a big thumbs up

does anyone know if when booking a venue if you need to pay in advance or pay for the venue at the end of the night when you have made your money back?

MuteWitness
03-06-2004, 13:47
classic rock- have you posted this months gig list or arnt you allowed to do it any more?

Classic Rock
03-06-2004, 13:53
~~~~~~~~~I'm still here~~~~~~~~~~
If you wanted to book out our room 2 and set up your own thing going in that room (your own DJ and music), then if you could guarantee enough people would be coming along I'd let you have the room for nothing, no need for you to charge on the door - encourages more people. The room holds up to seventy.
We close the bar at eleven though, no getting around that, unless someone has an 18th or a 21st or 30th/40th/50th and we know a few weeks in advance.
