im totally stuck on connecting to xbox live with my new xbox 360.dont really know what im doing, got a vague idea but everything ive tried hasnt worked at all.ive tried using ethernet cable and attaching to the pc but there is something wrong with the ip adress. When i connect to the router it doesnt even connect to the xbox.someone please help me,wanna get it up and running.thanks
Could be that your firewall is blocking the Xbox from connecting... I know it's risky but try disabling your firewall before you try to connect Xbox, and that might work, there should also be a setting in your firewall to allow the Xbox to connect online when the firewall is on.

sephiroku emtpy ya box mate
you need a cross over cable instead of ethnet cable.they look the same but theres more wires in a cross over cable.i had the same problem,go to pc world ask for cross over cable, there a tenner.that will work, then like people said you will need to disconnect your fire wall.
hope it helps:thumbsup:
you should only have to open a few ports on the firewall rather than completely disable it
I think XboX Live uses UDP 88, UDP 3074 and TCP 3074
also check http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908884/en-us?sd=xbox
yay I can post links :D
also try http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xbox360/connectionmethods/webconnectivitywizard.htm

i have now solved the problem with a little help with esme(thanks mate).i had to bridge the connections so i could change the settings of allowing other users to use same internet connection, then i just added the ports.
