Hello everyone

I have a rabbit problem.:( I have a male rabbit, I cuddle him regularly, but he often wee's on me. I have been trying to work out why, whether its fear or territorial perhaps, what do you think? What I can do to stop him doing it?

You should take great care with animals.... they are due our respect and love.... they can't tell you when anything is wrong and such a small animal is due a cuddle.

Unless the rabbit is afraid i would guess that he is being territorial (as in scent marking his territory YOU) neutering the rabbit may stop this behaviour it would be worth asking a vet.

Try peeing on the rabbit!

Go on give it some of it's own medicine, but I would advise you to take it outside before you try it :hihi:

LMAO:hihi:

So that's why my wife keeps wetting herself when I hug her:)

I thought she had bladder weakness problems.

How old is your rabbit?

If he's very young it could just be that he's so excited to be with you that he can't hold it (happens with many young animals).
Likewise, if he's young and you've been playing with him put him outside (or in litter tray, which ever you use) to let him go to the loo before putting him on your knee as playing will make him need the loo too.

If he's old, it could be that he's having trouble controlling his bladder now, in which case there's not a lot you can do I don't think and it won't improve but if you're actually worried about him, it wouldn't hurt to see your vet and ask him what could be causing it.

He doesn't seem afraid as his breathing is normal and he likes to lick my face, so I think we get on well. Might look into the neutering... I know a vet personally so might ask him socially about it rather than taking a trip into a surgery before I am sure. Thanks for the advice.

I bought him when he was 7 months old (I know, quite old, but hes getting to be very friendly), had him three weeks, hes an outdoor bunny currently, although has a corner litter tray in his hutch (which i can tell he uses when i clean him out).

He is quite territorial about the hutch bit itself, which leads out into a play pen, I usually open this and let him come to me for cuddles which should allow him time to do his buisness first. It might be easier when i have him indoors this winter and he is using a regular littertray.

You make a good point about being excitable, I guess as he gets used to me he may grow out of it. (unless as moonbird suggested its territorial) till then old clothes for rabbit cuddles.

Hmmm, I'm not very 'up' on rabbits, someone else may be able to help more, but I know someone I can ask so I'll get back to you.

I don't know about the ages for rabbits although 7 months seems a bit old to still be wetting through excitement, but again, I'll ask.

It could indicate a health problem in which case you should talk to your vet.

Do you know how he was treated before you got him? It could be due to lack of human contact, being told off when he got on his previous owner's knee etc. etc.

Anyway, I'll ask and get back to you!

I had a boyfriend like this once :suspect: Not for long though. Pffft!

Seriously, it could just be that rabbits have tiny 'ickle bladders so have to empty them frequently.

Hehe, poor lad! Must have been very embarassing.

I think Peter rabbit must know we have been talking about him, had a few cuddles today and my clothes are still clean and dry.

Has he been snipped?

Has he started spraying yet, if not you have loads of fun to come :(

If he isn't snipped you should get him done, you will find him a much more relaxed and in control rabbit after the op.
