View Full Version : Any other Sheffield based Leeds supporters... stujourno 19-05-2006, 10:27 ...who are getting a tiny bit excited about Sunday :D Stuff 19-05-2006, 10:33 Come On Watford!!!! Greenback 19-05-2006, 10:38 I hope to goodness Dirty Leeds and their band of over-priced hoofers get stuffed. No offence, like! Are you referring to your gigantic debts? That first class nellie who you took on board as chairman? I find it quite apt that the team with the most hated fans in the country also have the most hated chairman, nay, person, on their board. You'll note that we've not put the seats in the new corner stand at the lane. We're waiting to see if justice is done and Watford (quality football team) smash five past you (boring, predictable and simply not good enough) in the final. But should you find yourselves somehow promoted (and your admission prices quadrupled), when you come to the lane for your next defeat, you'll have no need to chuck the seats on the pitch. UP THE WATFORD. COME ON MARLON KING. alevans 19-05-2006, 11:08 What are you all on? I'm a blade but I want Leeds to win! New here, are you? blackcat 19-05-2006, 11:23 New here, are you? Spoken in the true spirit of the game basil? I think not. I still find it difficult to contemplate that in pubs the length and breadth of this country, people will unite to watch the national team, wearing all kinds of club shirts with no trouble. I for one don't wan't two weeks of Leeds' promotion party on ITV and in the local press, so I also will be a Watford fan on playoff final day. I think the seat smashers will get a shock when they see that Watford won't take it lying down when Weeds start kicking lumps out of them. Dirty, cheating, diving scum give football a bad name. RobWilson 22-05-2006, 10:04 It might have been a £40 million match for Watford and Leeds, but it must have been worth millions to The Blades too. Think what damage it would have done to them had Leeds been promoted – “Leeds the top club in Yorkshire” and with all the media hype, Bates’ contacts getting them all the best sponsorships and players…. Now with Leeds losing their parachute payments, I predict (and hope) that they will struggle to do as well next season as they’ve done this. I genuinely think that Wednesday have a chance of finishing above them. Can’t wait for Calendar and Look North tonight! Yog Sothoth 22-05-2006, 11:00 I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at the degree of anti-Leeds sentiment expressed here. Years of being overshadowed by your more glamorous cousins up the M1 must have been humiliating. However, I have to make two points: First, I was pleased to see little Sheffield United finally make it over the wall after jumping and squeaking for so many seasons and never quite making it. Good luck to you blades. Shame we won't be playing you next season but maybe the season after eh, if you stay up? Secondly, despite derby rivalries, I am a Yorkshireman. As such, I want to see as many Yorkshire sides in the Premiership as possible. Even Bradford City. The premiership is dominated by London clubs (7 if you include Watford) and lancashire sides, surely two demographic groups we all ought to unite against, rather than in-fighting. "Dirty Leeds" is a tired old chant. Give it a rest. I've been hearing that since the days of Norman Hunter. Football is (or should be) a physical game. Shoulder charges, kicked legs and headbutts are par for the course, and long may that continue, despite FIFA's attempts to change the game into an effete piece of theatre. Don't forget it has a common ancestor with Rugby! Next season, I want to see Barnsley up in the Championship, and Leeds and Wednesday gaining automatic promotion. Yeah, bring back the Ridings I say. How they could abolish boundaries that had stood for a thousand years I don't know. For historical and cultural pride alone they should have stayed. The Americans would never have done that, and we decry them for having no cultural history! Jeez! Anyway, off-topic. I am a Leeds fan. I cycle past Bramall Lane every day. In winter I sometimes wear my Leeds scarf. I expect to be treated with respect, though of course I don't mind a bit of p*ss taking.;) Yog Sothoth 22-05-2006, 11:33 You say that headbutts are part of the game??? how? I'm not talking about deliberate headbutts! Two players go up for a headed ball, you get it in the face sometimes. Never played footy? As for "uniting", I mean in a supporter's sense, not any sort of violence, which I deplore. I will always support a Yorkshire side against anyone else, just as I will always support a UK side against foreign opposition (even supported The Scum against Bayern in 1999, and that's hard for a White!). I bear no ill will towards anyone for footy reasons, and I'll happily have a pint with supporters of any club or country. happyhippy 22-05-2006, 11:39 I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at the degree of anti-Leeds sentiment expressed here. Despite the creation of Teeside, Cleveland etc I don't think the boundaries of Yorkshire have changed. Yog Sothoth 22-05-2006, 11:55 1974, I believe. Heath's government (?). Parts of what was the West Riding and North Riding were scattered between Lancashire (oh how they must have HATED that!), Teesside and Cumbria, all (except Lancs) previously non-existent counties. Cleveland and Humberside also took parts out of god's own county but thankfully have been abolished. Look up the Ridings boundaries on google and see what's changed. It's quite a lot. Remember too, that the three ridings were all one county, not separate! The splitting up of Yorkshire was probably to head off any independence movement!:hihi: crookesey 22-05-2006, 11:59 Leeds are arrogant cheating scum. I'm glad they lost. Where did i mention violence? Well done for being able to support other yorkshire sides but im afraid the vast majority of blades fans never want to see leeds or wednesday doing well im afraid - thats just the way we feel!!! I personally don't bear no ill will to any fans of any club and i will sit and have a drink with supporters too but it doesn't mean i want them to win? Yog Sothoth 22-05-2006, 12:46 So if it were ManU v Leeds you'd support ManU? crookesey 22-05-2006, 12:54 Cobblers. A few years of spectacular success under a spectacularly talented manager, and pretty much sweet Fanny Adams other than that. More League Cups than the Blades or your lot, and more European honours (ahem), but fewer FA cups than us and fewer league championships than you. Now our clubs' hey days may have long gone, but so have the scabs' and they are where they belong. Cobblers, that's Northampton not Nottingham. You are talking about two European cups (ahem). Are there any teams that you lot don't hate? Internetowl 22-05-2006, 13:08 Made my day watching 'big' club Leeds fall flat on their faces. :) scottf 22-05-2006, 13:29 So if it were ManU v Leeds you'd support ManU? Yes, everytime! happyhippy 22-05-2006, 13:42 Cobblers, that's Northampton not Nottingham. You are talking about two European cups (ahem). Are there any teams that you lot don't hate? Yes. Northampton ....... ;) We beat them 7-3 once you know ..... Seriously though, take away that period of success in the late 70's, and there is a history of mediocrity which could rival United or Day Before Thursday. Which does go some way to proving what you said about Ol' Big 'Ead. A point with which I agree as a matter of fact. peterw 22-05-2006, 13:50 4-0, enough said Not a bad guess! Only one out — might have been two out, only for a fluke goal. NEKRO138 22-05-2006, 13:52 This yogurt bloke's dissillusioned. Brainwashed by Look Leeds. I was very pleased to see Watford win, and also by a country mile. Yog Sothoth 22-05-2006, 15:01 Disillusioned? Nah. I'm a white, through and through. I'll keep on supporting them even if they end up in the Conference! I suppose I can understand the blades friendly animosity towards Leeds, given that Leeds have traditionally been the bigger club. That's probably why Leeds fans don't have strong feelings towards SheffU 0 - you tend to regard your nearest BIGGER rivals as the enemy, hence for us it's always been ManU. Fair play to the blades. I hope they stay up. the white rose 22-05-2006, 15:45 The old Ridings boundaries included Boro. I don't count the "new" boundaries! Leeds and Sheff are in the West Riding. South Yorkshire doesn't exist! Neither do Teesside or Cleveland, for that matter. Not as counties anyway. Well said, I'm voting for you as president. This yogurt bloke's dissillusioned. Leeds think themselves to be a big club and think that their Man U rivalry proves this. quite simply Leeds don't have a natural derby match, Wednesday v S/Utd is a big derby. When the play off result sinks in and you lot realise that you didn't even compete you might stop thinking BIG and start to realise that you are an average club with low gate receipts and could be in for a long spell in the Championship. Watch out for Wednesday next season all the crap out and good signings in so far, we might just steal your thunder. Fair points, the idea of Leeds thinking themselves to be on the same level as Man Utd is hysterically funny and proves the point about arrogance not backed by fact :loopy: Hull are probably their nearest peers, a bit harsh on Hull I know :) Greenback 22-05-2006, 17:27 Bradford, more like. Mind, we'll pass them on the way up next season. "Small town in Yorkshire..." segasonic 23-05-2006, 10:24 To quote Paul Butler: "It will be tough next season because some big clubs have come down, with Sunderland, West Brom and Birmingham all set to play in Championship. But that might take the heat off us in a way because we won't be the only big club there like we have been for the last two years." :loopy: Yog Sothoth 23-05-2006, 10:33 I don't think any but the most blinkered Leeds fan has any illusions about their being on a par with ManU, at least not since the early 90's when we did compete with them on a fairly even basis. Even at our fairly recent best, when we reached the champions league semis, ManU were still the better team. The rivalry between Leeds and ManU arose sometime in the late 80's I think. It was never so strong in the 70's. In fact, I can't even remember it being there back then. alevans 23-05-2006, 10:59 I really really cant understand this hatred of Leeds by Sheffielders. Bloody Hell, I'd much rather have had them promoted than sodding Watford, at least we'd have a Yorkshire derby to look forward to in the prem! alevans 23-05-2006, 11:01 Is it because the Wednesdayites are jealous? Le Phantom 23-05-2006, 11:23 Is it because the Wednesdayites are jealous? They might be jealous of the Blades but not Leeds :hihi: nope we just don't like Leeds, quite simple really and for all the reasons already stated. Most of all they are generally really way too pleased with themselves (hubris anyone?) and get peoples backs up with their capital of Yorkshire, capital of the North, capital of the cosmos tripe :loopy: Not as friendly as Sheffield either, so no thanks they can stay where they belong below the Premiership. Give me Wednesday up here for a proper derby match any day. Or even Rotherham, Hull or Barnsley (bless). alevans 23-05-2006, 11:51 They might be jealous of the Blades but not Leeds :hihi: nope we just don't like Leeds, quite simple really and for all the reasons already stated. Agreed, but its not likely to happen for a while is it, I'd love to see a yorkshire takeover of the London based rich clubs and Man U, but its a way off yet realistically isnt it! True, but even Donnie Rovers showed that real progress can be made even when you are down amongst it. The problem for a number of clubs is attracting big investment and the persuading the best players and coaches to come here. As you suggest London & Manchester have a big head start on that, but then they struggle to compete with the likes of Madrid and Barcelona. But I can't think why someone would rather live in sunny Spain than breezy Sheffield! Yog Sothoth 23-05-2006, 15:03 Give me Wednesday up here for a proper derby match any day. We'll be back, whether you like it or not. :hihi: Ally68 23-05-2006, 16:17 I've not heard anything from the OP since he started this thread. Bloody Hell, I'd much rather have had them promoted than sodding Watford, at least we'd have a Yorkshire derby to look forward to in the prem! Yes but Watford fans don't have this urge to smash up other teams' grounds and their towns and cities. Certainly not to the extent that so-called Leeds fans would. Some of us have obviously longer memories than others. I recall, back in the mid 1980s Leeds fans applauding the Blades' 2-1 win over them at the Lane by way of ripping up seats from the away end and showering on the pitch. It wasn't the first, nor the last time it happened. When we knocked the 'mighty whites' *snigger* out of the FA Cup a few seasons back they decided to have a re-run for prosperity's sake. The hatred of that club extends to our neighbours and across the country. Why else such a passionate cry of 'We all hate Leeds & Leeds & Leeds?' It has little to do with the bias shown on that junk half-hour slot called Look North; more, the mere name of this club reminds certain fans of the moronic element that makes up the core of their fan base. They've smashed grounds up all over the country. Remember Luton in the eighties? More seat frisbee throwing across the Kenilworth ground pitch. Then there was the wall that collapsed at St. Andrew's (Birmingham) which led to the death of a young blues fan. Funny, guess who Brum's visitors were that day? Long memories, images ingrained on one's brain. Ah, there you have it. Brains, something Joe Average Leeds fan is lacking. crookesey 24-05-2006, 11:32 Leeds fans, never trust folk that live in nowses and drive caaaas! Yog Sothoth 24-05-2006, 16:11 You leave my caaaa alone! I admit that Leeds have, certainly in the past (less so now I think), had a bigger than average moron quotient amongst their so-called supporters. These days that's largely been stamped out, although I know there are a hard-core of a few dozen who cause trouble at away games. I don't think that's worse than many other teams though and Leeds do get tarred with the brush of the 1980's when it really was atrocious. I'm sure the club and players are generally as ashamed as most true supporters are when it comes to those scum, and many of them have been rightly banned from Elland Road. Mind you, it didn't help our image when Bowyer and Woodgate did what they did. Nice boys. :loopy: |
