Hi, I had trouble buying my first home and in the end I co-bought with some friends - since then loads of people have asked me if I knew of anyone they could co-buy with - so in the end I created a site for co-buyers to find each other on - Co-BuyWithMe co uk
Check it out if you are interested in Co-buying your way on to the property ladder!

Same idea came out in the late 1980's.........property unaffordable..........club together, max out the lending multiples.......and we all know what happened then?

Smartie you're right, the early 90's were a disasterous time for everyone. I myself had just left university, surveying degree in hand trying to find a property company that was not going to go to the wall in the near future.
Times are different though, and what happened then was a 'crash' fuelled by over supply as band-waggon developers built and built beyond the demand, so prices had to come down (massive BoE base rates could not have helped either as people found they could not afford to keep what they had bought and could not sell as the over supply meant prices came down drastically).
The industry has learnt from it's mistakes and pundits across the land read level days ahead. There are of course the sensationalists in some press who will always predict bubbles bursting, but many have had to eat their words as no pop has been heard.
Co-buying is as much about buying affordably as it is about the inaffordability of property. It is for those who cannot afford to get onto the property ladder, for those who cannot afford to buy what they want where they want to live, but it's also for those who do not want to stretch themselves financially. If you want to buy your first home, or for whatever reason you are re-entering the property market you might not want to put ALL your hard earned money into bricks and mortar. If you buy with someone else you can keep some in reserve. This money could be put into improving the property, a better standard of living for you, or as a buffer against lean times.
After years in the property industry we recognise that of course co-buying is not for everyone, but if you feel you could share the ownership of a property with someone it is an excellent way of affording that extra step onto the illusive property ladder, which is why some time ago we launched SharedSpaces.co.uk and we are happy to report that with our 2,000th member registering the other day we are confident that quite a few people feel the same way.

Did you manage to type that with a straight face?
What is rather amusing is that if you try and search on the website for a Co Buyer in your area, then you will notice that South Yorkshire is missing.
Oh dear.
Otherwise it looks like a good site!
