Please tell me SOMEONE out there has seen Kes. I only know one other person whos seen it and when i try explaining the storyline to people (ie, boy witha bird that gets killed), they think it sounds rubbish so dont watch it. Its the best film ever though! It makes me cry everytime i watch it and ive got it on video.

I love the football game in it Billy Casper (David Bradley) is in goal and malicious PE teacher Mr. Sugden (Brian Glover) Is like the PE teacher from hell who hates losing...Man utd v Spurs...kittykat its a great film :D

I want that film on DVD... I thought it was amazing!

I like the bit where Casper's older brother 'Judd' flushes that kids head down the bog. Well good film!

I know Kes, seen the film read the book, experienced the large amount of hype given by our teachers 'cos it was based and filmed in our local area.

That and our deputy head at the time appeared in the film.

Generally I find it all annoying, but then you do when teachers go on and on and on about it. I have the same feeling for "Z For Zacariah" pile of c**p that was.

I read and watched both Kes and Z for Zacariah at school. I remember all the girls giggling (inc. me!) because you saw Jeremy Irons nether regions in Z for Zacariah!! lol! (was it Jeremy Irons, I think it was anyway).

I would like to watch both again now that I am an adult. I think school probably puts you off admiting that you liked them!

I think I did secretly enjoy them both though!

We never did Kes at school! I wish we had though, we did Im the King of the Castle. Whats Z for Zachariah? Ive never heard of it. Is it like Kes?
StephStellar - does your mum know whether the boy who played Billy Casper did any other films? Did the film makers pick him cos he could act or did they just pick him cos he looked the part? There are times durng the film when you can tell hes not a trained actor, but its still a really good film and I cant imagine anyone else playing Billy. He shouldnt have killed the bird though.

Z for Zacariah is about a nuclear holacaust, it is extremely unrealistic and painful. I managed to pull the whole book to pieces for my English Literature exam because I really couldn't bear to write anything nice about it. I managed to earn myself a BBBBB!! Which was great As I expected nothing.

Everybit as good as I remember!

is there anything extra on the DVD that there isnt on the video. IE, anything other than the film?

It was his older brother Judd who killed the bird cos' Billy nicked his gambling money and spent it on chips cos he thought he wouldn't win.

it was Anthony Andrews in Z for Zacharia, very good series for its time, does anyone remember another series at the same time set in sheffield called Threads ?

I have this on dvd it's the best film ever. I agree with the OP it is such a great film.

My fella made me watch it when we first started going out cos he's from Sheffield- I proper enjoyed it- UNTIL bloody Kes got killed!!! I was devastated!! I was bawling! I then decided the film was **** and never want to see it again! lol!

Apparently the director told the kid that plays Casper that they were actually killing the bird, so his reaction was real! Poor little sod!

Kes is an amazing film the last time i saw it was about 10 years ago in my english class im glad someone has brought this up, its brought some funny memories back cheers!
