View Full Version : Should Xbox 360/Other console games still be £45-50 in the High Street?
I did a poll about this over on my forums (see my sig for link), and so far everybody (all of 1 members, ie me) has voted against the current trend of shops like GAME charging £45-50 a pop for games on formats such as the Xbox 360.
Do you think that the price is right? Or is it time for a reduction in price? After all most of the other consoles' games are only £30, £40 at the most.
Old_Bloke 17-05-2006, 19:29 Supply and demand. Like everything else, if nobody bought games for the next few days, they'd suddenly be dramatically reduced in price by next week.
They'll always cost as much as the publishers/shops can get away with.
They are miles overpriced.
Hence the reason why piracy still rages over here.
if you cant afford the games why buy the console.
Overpriced?
Guess that depends what it costs to make them, the company still has to make money!
It wont be cheap to keep teams of researchers, programmers, managers, marketing ppl, artists....... paid and productive.
Zinger549 19-05-2006, 08:36 Buy online cheaper:Gameplay (www.gameplay.co.uk) is a good site i've used it quite a bit. and www.123pricecheck.co.uk
I've never owned a console for just this reason. When I used to buy games in the late 80s/early 90s they'd be £15.99 new and as low as a fiver for older games. Don't really miss games, I try and avoid anything digital after working in front of a PC all day when I get in at night.
MattTurner 19-05-2006, 13:39 I've only really recently got into consol gaming, but surely one of the reasons is the increased costs of production with all these new graphics and stuff in the games.
Maybe Nintendo have a point saying that one of the best features about their next console is reduced production costs or the games compared to the other consoles because of the non-advanced graphics. But maybe this is just a marketing tactic...

Cos we didn't expect teh games to end up at 50 notes a throw?!
Anyway it seems that Supermarkets are already under-cutting dedicated games shops and selling Xbox 360 games at £39.99 instead of £50... I've seen them at this price in Morisson's, Tesco and on Asda's web site.
Just a shame they don't have the specific game I want, Rumble Roses XX, I'd use Play.com for it as it's only £40 on there but I've had problems with orders getting lost in the post from there recently. hence my long rants about jobsworth posties lately (Sorry Tracie I know you don't like the J word).
