The 'x' button on my keyboard has decided to work only intermittently. It has happened before, but a techie mate of mine (now in NZ) fixed it somehow (involving actually changing something on the compuetr, not just giving me a new keyboard). Same thing is happening with my '2' button. Some times both button work just fine (particularly in programs such as MSN and Yahoo Messenger), but when i try to type in Word it goes all funny again.

Anyone any ideas what my mates magic fix was? Or am i going mad and it really is just a case of getting a new keyboard?!

pick up a new one for a fiver from any of the computer shops in sheffield, don't waste your time trying to fix it

you can try gentely prising the keys off with a flat bladed screwdriver and giving it a good clean underneath (compressed air, isopropyl alchohol) or just shake all the crumbs out.

Usually if a keyboard starts acting up with random keypresses or groups of keys being activated when one is pressed.. then it's down to some form of liquid being spilt on the keyboard, such as tea, coffee or because you've been drooling over some "educational" graphical images... :rolleyes:

If it's an expensive keyboard then it's worth taking it apart and giving it a good dry off and blast out all the hair, skin cells and dust that build up... If it's a cheap one then get a new one as per rarstars suggestion...

A proper clear out of any keyboard can take as long as an hour or more... speaking from bitter, I'm so clumsy with my tea, experience :mad:

I'm terrible with keyboards, I've probably got through about ten at work. Half were coffee incidents, the other half was from my snapping keys of by hitting them too hard!
