Hi,

I need to renew my domain name (it was due for renewal on the 8th of May
2004).

I also want to get rid of my old registration agent as they provided a very poor service.

My domain name is a .co.uk.

How do I go about changing the registrant agent and renewing my domain name?

Can anyone recommend a good registrant agent for .co.uk domain names.

Thanks in advance.
Jamie.

You first need to choose a new registrar. There are plenty of good ones out there, perhaps http://www.123reg.co.uk/ or perhaps http://www.ukreg.com/ who offer a .co.uk for £5.90 for two years (including fees).

Once you have decided on a company you need to contact them and ask for their ISPTAG and explain you wish to transfer your domain. They will tell you to give their ISPTAG to your old registration company so that they can gain control of your domain.

Just as an addition of semi-related info for TLD's ie: .com/net/org etc.. domains..

If you leave it too long you have no choice but to renew with your original domain registration provider...

Also, if you do register a domain, you aren't allowed to move it to a different provider for at least 60 days after registration...

Add to that, that there are various scam companies out there that cost a mint or worse those that reel you in with low cost registrations but hide in the small print that if you choose to move elsewhere, then you have to pay a leaving/admin fee.. usually quite excessive...

So, always look before you jump.. and always plan ahead... it pays in the long run... and yes, I learned much of this the hard way :)

I like Namehog (http://www.namehog.net) and Mort (http://www.mortinc.com/) which is a guy fairly local

www.glasstop.net can provide space as well even if it is registered with a different company.

Yea ... I want to keep the registration of domain name and hosting seperate.

This gives me more power / control etc ...

I think it's foolish to throw all ur eggs in to one companies basket.

I am having a problem getting in touch with my old ISP ... they are very slow to respond and have provided a v bad service in the past.

I am at the stage of getting them to point my domain at another ISP's tag ... is that the correct terminoligy ?

Thanks for ya help guys.

I wouldn't recommend these guys. They won't let you point your domain to another server - i.e. you have to host with them.

Unless they've changed their policy recently?

True, and also the servers are in Germany, which makes them appear much slower than a UK based host.
