View Full Version : How much would you pay for a signed sheffield united shield?
alirosdan 16-05-2006, 17:03 At the beginning of the football season (August 05), Sheffield United kindly donated a shield signed by all the players to help our fundraising. We thought we would probably get more for it by selling it separately rather than as part of the raffle. Unfortunately, as I work in Rotherham, there aren't as many United fans as in Sheffield! We haven't a clue how much to ask for it, so I thought that someone on SF might be able to give us an idea!
marinedrift 16-05-2006, 17:39 Its got to be worth £100 of anyones money (providing they are a Blades fan) for charity. Whats the charity or fundraising for??
alirosdan 16-05-2006, 17:53 I work in a respite care unit for adults with learning disabilities and our funds pay for things like play station/games, activities, DVDs, karaoke machines and other leisure items. The council buys basics like TVs, washing machines, hoovers etc but 'luxuries' have to be purchased from our amenities fund.

You can buy framed shirts in the Lane store for about £60-70, or at least you could do a couple of years ago.
I won one at the start of the 2002-03 season and that's what they were worth then. Mine has some obscure reserve players as well as the first team players too so it might be worth trying to work out who signed it to see of that may increase the value .....
I would seriously say raffle it at £1 a ticket and do a load of leg work ... I'll have at least £5 worth  , and try to get to a couple of hundred quid or so. Ask in pubs and clubs if they'll maybe sell a few ....
You won't get too much just selling it. Check ebay for current prices on net auctions, and you'll see hardly any teams apart from top of the top divisions in England or Scotland making over 3 figures.
Hope this helps and bloody good luck :)

Helps if I read it properly  ..... (shield not shirt) ...... what sort of shield? It will have a bearing on what to sell it for, if you don't (gulp) raffle it ....
uncleheed 16-05-2006, 18:59 Wouldnt give you 2 balloons and a peg
alirosdan 16-05-2006, 19:21 Thanks for the advice Happy, it did seem a lot of work for a little shield!!! I will look on ebay to see if I can find anything comparable. It may come down to a raffle yet. ;)
Uncle, I think most of the people in Rotherham probably think the same as you which is why I thought I would sound out Sheffield people (I'm a Wednesday fan myself so I agree with you).

Glad you took that comment well, as had to be rude even for charitable events
Wouldnt give you 2 balloons and a peg
How about three stone of monkey nuts and kite?:help: :help:
alirosdan 16-05-2006, 20:13 Looks like it will have to be a raffle, I can raise more than £5 for it!! This one is identical to ours  :

Do you think it's wise to insult some of the people that you're hoping to sell it to ?
Try it on Ebay - it's full of idiots - you could put a reserve on it.
May sure you identify it well, in case people are searching for say 'SUFC', 'Sheffield United' or 'pig'.
Seriously, good luck for your charity.

I'm gobsmacked that you think I'm insulting anyone! Not sure how you understood my post but it's the last thing I would do. :(
chuffinel 17-05-2006, 12:21 Uncleheed's original comment was that he wouldn't give you two balloons and a peg for it. I find this insulting to Sheffield United F.C. as well as to the supporters. You agreed with him.
alirosdan 17-05-2006, 12:25 I think you are being a little over sensitive. It would never enter my head to insult someone because of the FOOTBALL TEAM they support, any more than the god they choose to worship or the colour of their eyes. It's a game for goodness sake. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
chuffinel 17-05-2006, 12:35 That may be so. I do know that if ANY team(Wednesday included) had donated an item for charity I wouldn't be making trite remarks about its value.
alirosdan 17-05-2006, 12:48 We are extremely grateful to all the people who have donated to our fund, including the very generous item from Sheffield United. I will do my best to get a good price for it and I will even buy raffle tickets to try and win it. It doesn't mean I have to like it. Like I said earlier, we are all entitled to our opinions. Even you. I don't intend arguing any more about this - it's way off the original subject. It's been nice talking to you Chuff. X
chuffinel 17-05-2006, 13:34 Fair enough. Back on topic. Do you intend putting it on E-Bay ? Thanks
matt1889 17-05-2006, 14:28 I reckon that these things are more sought after in raffles at pubs before matches?......
If you went down to a pub before a match......one of the boigger ones....or even more than one.....and raffled this thing off, you would be more than likely to make in excess of £100.......
Football fans are very generous people after all...... especially on a match day in happy spirits with a little help from Billy Beer.
I think your best bet is to raffle it - but it does mean hard work selling the tickets. Good luck
Sorry about the earlier reply. My daughter logged on.
