Can anyone tell me if Edmund Road is a nice place to live , I have the chance of moving there but would like to hear if people can advise me, it's very close to town centre, will my car be safe?

nice may be stretching a point ;)... but it's probably no better or worse than the other areas within walking distance of town

It never seems to get a mention on any of the random crime or student trouble threads on here though

Is it one of John Brownhill's properties? He was once our landlord, and we recommend him. Always had repairs done within 24 hrs

probably what is should have said is would you bring up a 3 year old there?
the property is council owned and is closest to Clarke and partners, it's a nice little terraced house with a yard, but i am wondering if it's more suited to students rather than families with young kids?

I lived on Lancing Road for four years and thought it was a nice little community. I did not have kids, but we weren't students. Really not that many students about, compared to the so-called ''better' areas like broomhill. So I would recommend based on my own experiences.

No general knowledge, as I don't live in town anymore, but I had a car on the street outside the house for four years with no problems. The worst incidents I can remember were that a joy rider had a crash on shoreham street once and the police chased him on foot down the street, we occassionally had people banging on the front room window, a few loud drunks walking home past the house on a Saturday night and of course the nightmare that is match day parking. But that is the absolute worst I can think of over 4 years and I have very happy memories of our little house!

One of my friends stayed in a couple of houses on Edmund Road while at university. Although for the most part there were no real problems, on one occasion they got burgaled during the day while they were out. :|

Indeed we did. Then again we did leave a window open :loopy: :suspect:

Other than that it was fine. A good mix of long time locals and some students. Convenient for 2 corner shops, 2 sarnie shops, Netto and Waitrose (bit of a walk).

i used to live on clough road up to 2 years ago but had to move out because i have 2 kids and students on one side and druggies on the other. very handy for town though, thats the only thing i miss about living down there, also it can be very noisy on matchdays and you may have trouble parking. but other than this it was ok.

Ive lived on Edmund road 2 years now, I can tell you one thing for sure dog poo ! almost every single day there are news ones all along the pavement...

As for crime Ive had no problems with my car, but my house has been broken into three times since ive been here. 1st Time they got in through open window (bathroom). Window is always closed now. 2nd they broke the kitchen door down (stronger door fitted). 3rd they climbed through 1st floor bedroom windo at 6pm whilst 3 of us were inside... They stole 2 laptops that time.. Now we close windows if no one is inside the ROOM..

We have window opening restrictors (http://www.kismanufacturing.com/Images/Products/Full/3_632355064434687500.jpg) fitted on the accessible windows, and still close all windows when we're out, window locks on all downstairs windows, and an automatic window lock on the one window which somebody always forgets to put the manual lock on

When I bought this bag full of tackle in that shop in the street opposite B&Q (who's name escapes me), he asked if I'd been burgled. My reply was 'No, and I don't intend to be'. Apparently, people usually only bother spending that much money on security after they've had the house ransacked

The shop on shalesmoor didn't have the right opening restrictors BTW. These are such that you have to close the window to be able to release them. Others are only to stop kids from falling out, and are easily opened fully ;)

no there free but only available to residents. there is a 2 hour parking restriction on most roads in the area unless your a resident just check at the council. Because if you do need one and dont have one displayed in the car you can get a parking ticket just for parking outside your own house.no excuses I know because it happeened to me.
Hope this helps. Cathy

hi

i'm moving onto edmund rd in july, moving in down the halfords end.

Do you need a permit down there too because i dont remember seeing any of the permit signs about.

also if we do need a permit, do they have restrictions on how many per house?

Thanks, Becka

Hi Becka as isaid it is best to check with council. it is not written anywhere on the 2hr parking notices so to be safe and not sorry check it out. there is only one allowed per household and you need to send proof of residence such as elec bill, gas, water, or such like hope this helps.
Cathy.

Hi, I am planning to move to edmund road. I had read the thread here but still not convinced about the area. Generally, how is the place like? How's the safety aspect i.e, will it be dangerous for a girl to walk alone in day time or late evening (not late nite). Are there many drunkard around and during match day?

Many thanks.
Mee

Hiya mee,

i've lived on edmund rd just over 3 weeks now and so far so good.
We've not had any problems although the house was broken into a few months ago but that's been it according to both them and the neighbours.

Not sure about match days, guess it's if you want a parking space, make sure you're parked up well before kick off and when it's full time, don't even think about driving anywhere because although there doesn't seem to be any trouble, people walk in the roads becuase there isn't enough space on the pavement so it's difficult to move your car around.

The area seems quite safe, similar to most other places near sheff city centre i guess.

Becka

A very good friend of mine owns the car repair centre on edmund road, he hasn't had a problem with crime.

Seems to be an ok area to me.

I live very close to Edmund Road and think that the area is okay. It is a bit of a student area but not excessively noisy. I've seen a few piles of smashed glass indicating car break-ins on Duchess Road and a few months back someone crashed a stolen car in our street and legged it. We've occasionally had people knock on our window as they walk past, but I just tend to roll my eyes and think "how old are you?"

The station is close by and it's within walking distance of the city centre. Netto is the closest supermarket but Sainsburys on the Moor is only 10-15 minutes walk. There's also Norfolk Park nearby. Matchdays can be quite hectic but it's just for a 4-5 hour period and then it passes.

As for parking restrictions, I wasn't aware there were any (although I don't drive myself). Which streets do the restrictions cover?
