Why is it that one finds a variance in the qualities of Taxi drivers within the greater Sheffield area. They are highly proficient or have no understanding at all of ones request and no knowledge of the geography of this city and are rude!:gag: :gag:

I have terrible problems as I'm quite softly spoken. In my experience they usually know where they're going, but they often mis-hear where I ask them to go...

Private hire often equals knave bit a full hackney should know better.Maybe a full knowledge test,as in London ,is the answer. They all do a good job though given what they have do deal with.

And what do they have to deal with but fee paying customers, wearied from a night exercising their free time and merrymaking within the fine hostelries around this fair city. However, I do hear tell of such places that stay open until the early hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Is it the thought of venturing to such ungodly locations that corrupts and dehumanises the hacknied drivers.

Possibly it is.All in all ,I would say stuff 'em.They have a job to do and the should look after the customer i.e me

I bemoan the fact that it's so difficult to get a taxi with decent connelly hide leather seats and decent air con. It's a total decline in proffessional standards.

I would suggest that if the council licencing section in unison with the Police, were to randomly stop all taxis on a regular basis, they would find a significant number of unbadged (hence illegal) drivers doing several hours in a friend or relatives cab to make a few extra quid.
This is not speculation but as an ex (and fully legal at the time) taxi driver I know this to be fact.
Perhaps if the moonlighters, cab owners and taxi companies were prosecuted then the standard of professionalism in this trade would take a turn for the better.

I'm back Taxo Driving. The problem is that when you start new, no matter what test they throw at you it still takes hands on experience to learn the terrain, plus do you think its possible to learn and remember every street name in the borough??? Do you know everything about your job? Being rude is a personal thing - that just depends on ones personality, I personally enjoy having a laugh and conversation but it doesn't always go that way as around 30% of your passengers are tossers who like to give you attitude!!! I could give you some stories about life on streets but I won't
