I went to Gleadless Valley 1987 - 1992... A few others went over the years as well, such as DaBouncer, 1988-1993.

Hated every ruddy minute of the place, especially the "Unit" where all the disabled people had to go, under the "care" of Mrs Sandra Freeman, daft old bat, right Dragon Lady she was...

Hmm, I remember Mr Bradley vaguely, he was the Maths teacher iirc, his Missus taught typing in my day.

Iirc Mr Bradley was a tall-ish bloke with brown hair and a moustache, am I on about the same bloke as you had?

Does anyone still have any copies of the school magazine 'Kite'
I've got one in the loft somewhere.
There were photos of the football, rugby & trampoline teams, plus poems and pictures that the kids had done.

It seems so long ago now but still got the medals for the trampoline I used to do. I remember only a few people, Bridget Naylor, June Shepherd, Maxine Carr also in the trampoline team until she hurt her knee badly in one of the competions. Hated greeny, remember the head mistress she was only little but could use the cane! What class were you in I was with McKenzie. was also in the hockey team for a while.

Yes, I was there from 1969 to 1974. I forgot to put my tie on one day and got called into Spot's office !! I remember most of the teachers........

Miss Barnaby - French
Mr. Morgan - Religious Knowledge
Mr. Howe - Geography
Mr. Broadhead - Chemistry
Mr. Smedley - Physics
Mr. Grattan - Maths
Mr. Holden - History
Mr. Proctor - Art and Craft (and dinnertime multi-player chess)
Mr. Green - PE for boys
Mr. Turner - Metalwork
Mr. Moffatt - Tech. Drawing and Woodwork for the boys
Mrs. Parnham - Needlecraft for the girls
Mr. Jenkins - Music
Mr. Sewell - ? Can't remember what he taught.
Mr. Dunn - Maths
Mr. Bradley - (Maths or PE ? Or both ?)

I'm struggling to remember the names of the teachers for Biology and English.
I could name every member in my class but I'll not bore you unless you really want to know !! Seems like I was only there yesterday, pity they bulldozed the place, I like to wallow in a bit of yesteryear. Seems strange they called it Gleadless Valley School when it was actually at Norton !! Still, there seemed to be a good mix of kids who actually lived in Gleadless Valley and those from the posh houses in Norton. (Yes, that includes you Messrs. Hopkinson and Shearstone to name just two !!)

Regards to anyone in my class (1B,2P,3H,4M,5G) who has read this.

Mr Kentzer once came into our class to ask about a box of Wagon Wheels that had been stolen from outside the tuck shop at lunch time.

To which he replied, "No, he was doing games at the time!"

Frank Howe - Geography - total layabout , who just continually repeated his OHP (over head projector ) slides which he did years before ! while he sat reading the newspaper for the hour and craving for a fag!

Could go on if need be !--- loved that place !!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi 'Marky Baby'

I'm searching the furthermost recesses of my memory to try and come up with at least one pupil name from your era (a couple of years behind me).
My best attempt at this is a girl called Mary(?) Billard. I think she lived at Herdings. Is my mind playing tricks or not?

Spot On, Miss Wilson it was, and I totally agree with your description of her. I always had run ins with her about my homework. Never got a good mark, yet when I wrote a poem for my mate's homework (And he was in the higher stream) he got an "A", Highly imaginative". When she congratulated me on my English 'O' level I told her "No thanks to you!"

Keep the memories coming.

... the Chemistry teacher , and Art teachers at that time (74-78) were both called Pashley.
I remember the Chem one went climbing mountains during the 6 weeks hols , and came back with a bald head due to almost being killed after a fall , and subsequent major surgery (fractured skull?) . This would have been around '77.
BTW i used to work the projector for the songs in assembly ! - Remember that ?

Mrs Wilson became Mrs Roden from memory.

Nigel Montague once squirted a water pistol on her chair, she walked in wearing light coloured trousers, sat down, her eyes opened widely...

She sat quietly pretending to mark work all lesson.

Some fond memories but mostly hated the place, and was glad to see it demolished.
