Any of the new scanners that are out now will most likely be compatible with xp.

Most of em are the 'all in one' models, print, copy, scan. :)

I've just got my Dad a Canon scanner with built in slide scanner as he wants to transfer his hundreds and hundreds of slides to CD\DVD for safekeeping. Have you got any features you need particularly? If not, then I wouldn't spend above £50 on one. I've got a £20 Mustek 1200 UB Plus here and it's been fine for scanning documents and photos.

Canon LiDE scanners are really good value.

Agree with Old_Bloke - I've had a canon LiDE30 (now discontinued) for a couple of years and its a good little workhorse, though the motor drawing the LEDs back makes an annoying noise.

I've got a Canon LiDE20, really good scanner and would recommend them anytime.

HP Scanners used to be good but their software has become very bloated.

Yep recommend these from me.
To copy slides if you have a digital camera just photograph them.
Make or buy a light box and some card to ensure they are always in the same position, put camera on tripod and take a few shots to determine wb,exposure etc,and away you go.
Or buy a very expensive dedicated slide/negative scanner.

Canon Canoscan 4200F, about £79 +VAT. Alright, not on a par with one of the top end ones costing hundreds\thousands but it does the job and no cardboard\Blue Peter style things in sight!

Can add another recommendation for the Canon 4200F - its very quick, which was an important factor for my wife (who has very little patience ;) )
