Hi!

I am moving to Sheffield shortly and am looking for work in a call centre / insurance environment (I have insurance exams)

Can anyone advise me who the big employers are for this type of work, who are supposed to be the best / worst to work for and what the pay is like.

Norwich Union have a big presence in Sheffield, it is their second base outside of Norwich.

HSBC is also a big employer in Sheffield, but not sure if they have call centres here, mainly IT headquarters.

Ventura have big call centres in the dearne valley, rotherham.

AON have big offices in Sheffield

........these aint anything to do with Insurance but whatever you do, DON'T work for DIXONS or TELEWEST. .....I had friends who worked there and they were treated like edited *

Are the call centres still taking on new people? Last I heard was that some of the ones in the Dearne Valley were transferring to India - cheap labour and all that. :cry:

HSBC has some work going in the near future on a helpdesk for mostgages in Sheffield. You get heavily trained for the work because it's for mortgages and you have to know most of everything to get on the helpdesk since they dont do that "press 1 if you want to know your balance, press 2 if you want more money to borrow, press 3 if you want to know how your remortgage is progressing, press 4 if you want some thing else " (4) "You want something else, we are transfering you to a phone box in the middle of a welsh valley 10 miles from a house as there is a better chance of someone answering. thankyou for your call."

Telephone Operatives

(telemarketing, telesales or appointment setting)
Work for our clients - SAAB, British Gas, The Economist etc.

Outbound calling, no cold calling. Business or residential calling. Sales lead generation and direct sales or marketing of products and services. Scheduling appointments with company decision makers for sales or product briefings.

Location: Sheffield City Centre and Broomhill.

Applicants should possess excellent communication skills and be target driven and well motivated to work within a team orientated environment.

Sales and telephone experience is preferred but not essential as full training is provided. Once you have started with Ant we also offer a £15 bonus for anyone introducing new recruits to our team.

I work at Aviva & I think they treat people great compared to where I used to work at Capita. I think they are a really good company.

Unless you are totally desparate dont go work for Ventura - I worked there and absolutley hated it.. they treat you like a number not a person.
