Hi all

A friend of mine needs a battery for a VW Polo (1996). His battery is certified dead :(

Anyway, he isnt looking for a brand new one, just one that has round terminals and will start the car up and remain alive :) Anybody have any for sale or know of a place that sells second hand batteries.

Thanks

iirc Charlie Browns does it. Maybe you can check them out. And if not them, theres a place up near the Blades ground that definitely does, but I cant remember what its called :(

Find out why it went kaput in the first place. If you replace it you will just knaker the new one. Check the voltage from the alternator, at high revs it should not be more than about 15 volts. If it keeps rising you have an electrical system fault, this will bugger up any battery

Hi Artisan

The car has been stood for about 3 months, with the battery in it. Hence, even once we jump started it and drove i for 2 hours, when we tried starting it again it was dead. Car had been in daily use before that 3 month rest.

As a matter of interest I got a PM about a garage on Greenland Road, (next to the Jet Petrol Station) - its a breakers yard I am told but don't know the name. Any ideas?

get a multimeter and check the voltage. Rev the engine gradually and test across the terminals. It could be the voltage regulator is boiling the battery, or that your alternator is not working. Look in the battery, if there is no liquid then you will have no power. However if this is caused by boiling then it will happen with a new battery too.

lol! No I meant I got a battery in the end! :) A very good one too (special thanks to the seller although i dunno if they use this forum or not!)

My friend is looking at selling the car soon since its been made redundant by his new car. Needs an MOT first though.
