PaulTansley 12-05-2006, 19:50 Do you know my Son brought me a loaf of bread today from the supermarket where he works and it was Mothers Pride.
I have not seen them for years, thought they had long gone.
Reminded me of the loafs we had as kids.
Does anyone else still have Mothers Pride or has he brought me back a 35 year old loaf...:gag:

Hi Paul. Brings back memories for me too. The bloke at the door with bread and other bakery stuff in his basket. Something from another age!

No PT, that was summat different. Mothers Pride used to deliver to your door.

right, I remember a loaf that was round, like milk bread or slimcea/ nimble, and it definitely came in an orange packet, and I seem to remember it was something like "tiger bread"

Hi PT. I remember it now. It came in an orange striped plastic bag (like a tiger). Can't remember what it it tasted like, though. The Mothers Pride stuff was just an ordinary loaf. It's just that some bloke came to your door with it and saved you the bother of going to the shops.
I remember the Tiger Bread - you are right , it came in an orange and black striped packet and the adverts on TV showed the opening of the packet with a lion roaring in the background ! My Nan always used to buy it for us kids when we went to her house for Sunday tea ! Think it was a bit like the milk bread/roll.

Hi Colin, yes I remember the bloke delivering bread in his basket to.
Just going slightly off the subject Colin, the last time I saw you was about 34 years ago can you remember the loaves we used to buy down on Fife street and take out all the inside to fill them with chips.

You can even buy it at my local supermarket here in Spain, my cousin Tony used to be a manager there way back.

Anyone heard that one / Was popular when I was kid!
I remember the bread wrapped in either Blue and white strip paper or red and white stipe paper one indicated thick slice the other thin slice. The paper had like a wax coating on it, which in many households got re-cycled into wrapping the packing up in e.g sandwiches for work. Now was that Fletchers or Mothers Pride bread????

No, the loaf is OK. It is avaikable in all the supermarkets once again. Who remembers Thora Hird being the mother in Mothers Pride?
