View Full Version : Romantic cosy restaurant in Sheffield? Jamie 13-05-2004, 23:46 Can anyone recommend a nice (slighty posh ... but not too posh) ... cosy italian restaurant in Sheffield please ? Titian 14-05-2004, 00:15 No but a good French one is Froggies Bistro on London Road. DaBouncer 14-05-2004, 07:12 BB's on Division Street... top notch food and romantic atmosphere guaranteed. LaScala on Abbydale Road South is also good (it's close to the Robin Hood Pub and Sainsbury's on Archer Rd). chri5 14-05-2004, 07:18 Just outside Sheffield in Dronfield is a restaurant called The Little Italy. Very good italian IMHO! theflyingfish 14-05-2004, 07:48 Buon Cibo in Broomhill. It's very busy and with a fairly loud buzz and the food is cooked fresh to order so expect slow service, but perfect for long conversation over BYO wine, which is why I think it is romantic. The food is fantastic. mr.blaze 14-05-2004, 08:27 There is one in Crookes that's really nice. It's a small place but I can't remember the name of it. Small good food and great for taking a lady to. There is also Maria's in Crookes but the other one is better. fuzzy 14-05-2004, 10:27 Do u mean Francos as the small italian on Crookes? I think that is not the place to take a new woman for a romantic meal, the food is goodand they do good desserts (which are recommended for sharing), and it is TYO wine but it is a bit small and cosy in there. Or do you mean Trattoria Sorrento? That one is good food, TYO wine and a nice place to go to. There is also Casanovas? Bigger but good food again and TYO too. I would say on Crookes Maria is the best. The food is good and is TYO wine, they have an area for going and sitting away from your table. Have to say when we have a girls night we ususally go here. All do veggie. I would go with DB on the BB's recommend in town, tis good food, Or Piccollos on West St. CaptainSleep 14-05-2004, 10:40 I'd second marias as well. The atmosphere is not as good as it was before the extension, but its still really nice and i've had some of my best meals there mr.blaze 14-05-2004, 11:42 They do great chocolate pancakes too:D theflyingfish 14-05-2004, 11:51 the food in Maria's to be honest. It seemed to me to be reminiscent of what people in the 1970's thought italian food tasted like... beckb 14-05-2004, 12:22 Originally posted by fuzzy There is also Casanovas? Bigger but good food again and TYO too. The food in Casanova's is excellent and the staff are really friendly. Gets very busy on a weekend though. mimicraze 14-05-2004, 13:51 hiya. whos the lucky lady then jamie??? ur a dark horse! mimi x Lickable 14-05-2004, 13:55 Da Bouncer had it right with BBs. I love it there and so does the missus! It can get quite full, but its still cosy and romantic! SilentStatic 18-05-2004, 15:56 I've been to Casanovas and although the service was good and the food was quality, I thought the portions were too small - not worth the expense. duffman 18-05-2004, 19:41 BB's plus Piccolos on west street I find the best Italian places to go, Piccolos isn't usually busy so you can get a table upstairs which is nice and cosy with very nice food. *Twinkle* 19-05-2004, 12:33 BB's!!! Good food, good prices, nice staff :D Tony Ruscoe 19-05-2004, 12:47 Originally posted by caprice BB's!!! Good food, good prices, nice staff :D Go to BBs and you might see some SheffieldForum regulars, eh Caprise! ;) I also recommend Trattoria Romana on Ecclesall Road. kirky 19-05-2004, 12:55 me and the missis have just been to the flying pizza on west street/glossop road...... lovly food, excellent service........if you go try the fish soup starter beautiful niko007 26-05-2004, 09:45 Francos is the best italian on crookes , its small it family run and the food service and staff are excellent Then Marias Then Casonovas sock 26-05-2004, 13:46 Trattoria Romana is the best Italian restaurant I have ever been to! It is on Eccleshall Road opposite the shopping complex with Pizza Hut/Tesco's/Blockbuster etc. It doesn't look much more than a nice independant restaurant from the outside but the food is absolutely gorgeous. It's a family run place with a really friendly, warm atmosphere - the wine list is more interesting than the average small restaurant and the food is a revalation. They even let us take our own birthday cake last time we went and gave us bowls and stuff to cut and eat it with.... though we felt guilty and ordered a desert anyway!:) Go here and I am positive you won't be disappointed, though if it doesn't sound like your thing, I've heard lots of good things about BB's too... sock Nanimo 27-05-2004, 05:12 I have to agree and say that the food in BBs is quite good, however, I must point out that it's not exactly very posh. Since that's one of your requirements, I wouldn't recommend BB's. Unfortunately, you don't get many posh restaurants in Sheffield. :( One romantic restaurant I would definitely recommend is Rafters, not Italian though... it's very warm, cosy and romantic... it's quite an intimate venue... and one of the more posh restaurants in Sheff. One of my faveourites... :) I believe that they have a website too, if you want to check it out from the comfort of your own computer. :P Nanimo 27-05-2004, 05:14 Found the site... http://www.raftersrestaurant.co.uk/index.html Jamie 27-05-2004, 07:31 I found one in the end ... went to 'papa ciccios' ar crosspool ... very nice and cosy ... food was yum. Thanks for all your suggestions. HoneyGirl 14-06-2005, 13:09 Me and my fella are planning to go out Thursday for a nice meal ... any suggestions? We went to Hui Wei on West Street last week which was really lovely and you get your own little sectioned off table but fancied something other than Chinese or Indian - any ideas ? Shiesh 14-06-2005, 13:14 Dore Grill is nice for a romantic meal but it is traditional English food! Que-tel on West Street is lovely for a cosy meal for 2!! :P bigjay 14-06-2005, 13:24 glover & co on eccy road - all candle lit or failing that 543 again on eccy road both are a fantsatic setting for a romantic meal Ousetunes 14-06-2005, 13:29 I've said it many a time before, but if you want somewhere really special, candle-lit, intimate serving absolutely top notch food and with a wonderful selection of wines (and someone who knows about wine), then try West 10 in Ranmoor. It isn't cheap - but you'll not regret it. My wife and I went for our Wedding Anniversary with my bro and his g/f. We spent over £300 (and he wouldn't let me chip in!) but when food and wine is this good, it's simply worth it. But book in advance. 2309190. HoneyGirl 14-06-2005, 14:04 Thanks everyone some good ideas .... will ask the other half tonight :hihi: green_ben 14-06-2005, 14:33 Another really nice place is chez la lou (think thats how you spell it) in Crookesmoor. The portions are HUGE and you get complimentary veg & dip, bread, and loads of chicken wings! Price is very reasonable, cost me and my girlfriend £30 and the food left over even fed us the next day! *Ryan* 14-06-2005, 14:54 what about a places in town? candle lit stuff bobby22 14-06-2005, 15:16 Originally posted by ryan123 what about a places in town? candle lit stuff I tried San Reno on Division street last week. Was really good. Bit expensive but top draw. Not been to BB's yet, but not heard a bad thing about it yet!! |
