I've found a flat in Nether Edge that is perfect in terms of the flat and what it costs, however there is a charge of 42 pounds to register and get references checked, then a further 100 pounds in admin charges before the 450 bond. I've never goner through an estate agent before, so was wondering if anyone could help me. Is this a normal amount or is it a rip off etc. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Unfortunately at the moment estate agents can charge what ever they see fit for so called 'admin charges'. Trading standards are investigating and trying to bring in regulations to prevent this but until then, whilst ever demand is there estate agents will charge it. The fee for referencing seems reasonable if they will be doing a credit check, but I would ask more about what the admin fee covers.

At the end of the day it all comes down to how much you want the property.
