View Full Version : Wine Tasting Evening in Sheff
Anyone know of anywhere that do wine tasting evenings??
Am after a present for a friend (and myself) and think it could be fun.
Cant seem to find anything suitable.
Cheers
:)
fozzybronze 10-05-2006, 18:23 The wife and I are also interested if anyone discovers one. We went to a couple that were held at Wollaton Hall in Nottingham that were excellent - all you could drink for £15!!! Whey-hey!! Was drunk enough to get the credit card out and order a few boxes to drink at home.
Ruskins (http://www.ruskins.com/wine.htm) on Tudor Square have wine tasting for £20 on the 6th June. Its great fun, loads of wine and food and as a special offer you get to meet me :)
fozzybronze 10-05-2006, 18:35 Cheers Shefweb.
Will speak to the wife tonight and see if we can make it!!
Great! I got pretty much bladdered at the last one we went to - the wine just keeps on coming :)
Hope to see you there.
fozzybronze 10-05-2006, 19:20 Its a date!! Wife is free, and its now in her diary. Will I have to go into town to secure my tickets or are they likely to save me some if I give them a ring with my credit card number?
carnivore 10-05-2006, 19:22 Not been, but the one each month at the wig & pen looks excellent. Tends to focus on a variety of wines from one particular region each time. All top draw stuff if the rest of their events are anything to go by.

No idea i'm afraid. Wifey went in to get our tickets but there's no harm giving them a ring. See you there, I'll be the long haired bloke in a wheelchair

It'll be just my luck to find that they'll be a convention of long haired blokes in wheelchairs that nite...:hihi: :hihi:
See you then!!
Looking like it is turning into a good night, how can i resist spending the evening with you guys! Will see you both there providing i get into town for tickets.
Thanks for the advice.

Yay! I really should be getting commission for this... :hihi:
I've never been to Ruskins but have been tempted, and the promise of wine tasting is tempting me even more :) Always seems a bit full of suits when I've gone past in the day. What's the crowd like at night?
I think All Bar One do wine testing some afternoons?
lisa1979 11-05-2006, 11:51 Sound good, need a drink!

That's a point. Is anywhere doing a wine tasting right now?
Well I was in Leeds All Bar One on Tuesday and they had literature saying they were doing lunch/afternoon tasting sessions so I guess it will be the same here in Sheffield?
im pretty sure nonna's on eccie road do
Ruskins is a good crowd, generally pretty relaxed and a nice mix of people.
I have 'issues' with All Bar One since we got served a terrible meal there that they refused to refund, so i'll never be going in any of them ever again. Hold a grude? Me? Never... :D
fozzybronze 15-05-2006, 12:16 Got my tickets now...only 10 sold so far, but the guy behind the bar says that was enough for it to go ahead. Very selective!! ;)
If Shefweb hadn't of said anything, I wouldn't have known about it, even though I had lunch there yesterday. Not exactly a big promotional push.
Looking forward to it. Treating the wife before I disappear off to Germany and the World Cup.
Tell me about it fozzybronze! Ruskins is a great place but their marketing seems to be all over the place and not at all focused or organised. I've got a couple of pages in a notepad somewhere on how they could improve (I'm a webbie/marketing type geezer in real life) - must dig it out and email them.
Looking forward to seeing you there fozzy and having a good old chinwag over a glass or 10 of something tasty :)
MaryMoll 16-05-2006, 14:19 The Fine Food and wine Shop on ecclesall road south do fantastic wine tasting. You can book for max approx 10 - 12 ppl. I went for a pals birthday and it was an excellent night, real good fun.

However, an emergency p**shead has stepped up to the plate!!
Will see you there Shefweb....look out for the gay looking couple on their first date!!:hihi:
Got my tickets now...only 10 sold so far

ajww4764 14-06-2006, 08:49 For all wine tastings in sheffield try food and fine wine, Ecclesall Rd
It is the guys from the fine wine place on ecclesall road that do the one at Ruskins. Went to the night and can throughly reccomend it to everyone. Think that we might go again it was so good! Mixed crowd but we were all chatting by the end, was a very good evening.
Only downside is that it is on a Tuesday evening, but once in a while who cares!
Thanks for all your advice.
