I have heard a rumour that 'Slammers' on Eccelsall Rd is going up for sale soon? Does anyone know anything? And, heard the same about 'Thyme' too.

Any help would be appreciated. Pia x

Slammers is owned by Cary Brown, who also owns Carriages.

Well it now looks officially closed!!!

Seems very odd. When it opened you had to book WEEKS in advance and even recently it looked very busy. Shame as it was a nice restaurant.

Yeah, I've had some top meals in there and I too had to wait weeks for each booking, but I haven't been for months as so many new places have opened up so maybe other people have followed the same pattern?

Also fresh seafood must be really expensive, constantly subject to market prices, hard to keep and tricky to shift. Its a difficult job to run an independant restaurant... but Ecclesall Rd is a prime location, no?

Well seeing as they used frozen seafood that shouldn't have been much of a problem!

Well no great loss IMHO. We went once to see if it was as good as people said and.... it was crowded, the service poor - basically like trying to see how many covers they could do a night - we were in and out within an hour or less.

The "slammers" were good but the main courses no great shakes.

Give me Thyme anyday.

Noticed it now says a new restaurant is opening soon - anyone know what it is to be?

Well, as reported by your undercover restaurant mole (me, hehe ;) ) It will be reopened shortly by Yyvonne as a quality restaurant without all the pretention.

Good luck to her!

No, it's going to be Yyvonne, like I said, not Richard Smith with Thyme Cafe 2.

What does that mean Tony? Plastic deck chairs and silk flowers? What was pretentious about it before?

Agreed - it was a seafood restaurant for people who don't like seafood (those who do should try the Terrace restaurant in Hathersage, it's excellent).

Any further details on what the plans are for the new restaurant?

Is that the new one that's opened near the deli/under the climbing shop?

Drove past Carriages yesterday, and that's changed to Browns Bistro so... Also closed (well probably - shop it's next door to is) due to flooding ?
