Im quite petite, and have problems buying trousers that are the right length, there are plenty of cheap trs about, but always too long.

Does anyone know a cheap place around town/eccy road that does alterations?

I know i could do them myself, but sewing is def not my strong point!!!

Sorry, prdnsf - I don't know anywhere in the vicinity you mentioned, but if you're ever up around Hillsborough, "Stitch-It" on Holme lane are very good and reasonably priced.

Again, not where you said, but there's a place in Meadowhall on the lower floor near(ish) M&S and I think it's called Quickstitch. That's not very expensive and they're very good and usually do it fairly quickly.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! I just rang quickstitch, and i think there name should be expensive stitch!!!!! The prices starts at £10.99! The trousers themselves would barely cost that!!!!

ooops... Sorry about that. My sister uses them all the time. She must be prepared to pay more than I thought. I'm surprised cos she's a student. Aren't they all supposed to be poor? :suspect:

Have you thought about cheating and using that iron-on tape stuff. It looks great if you do it properly and it's not that difficult to work out. I've even done it so it can't be too complicated!

ta for that, only problem is woodseats is a bit of a mare for me to get to.

Cannot recommend her highly enough - absolutely brilliant. She altered my bridesmaid dresses with a week to spare before the wedding. She did a fantastic job and was lovely to talk to.

I went to Amie in an emergency as I was completely messed around and let down by Ish alterations at Woodseats. I turned up for an appointment with my 2 bridesmaids and their dresses(an appointment that had been booked in for a month) to be told that the woman who did the alterations was on holiday. When I asked if anyone else could help, I was told no. The woman who I dealt with was the rudest, ignorant and most inconsiderate person I have ever met. I asked if she would be able to do something as the wedding was only a few weeks off and she said no as she needed her lunch. I then got upset and asked how this had happened and basically no-one had checked their appointment diary to see what dresses were due in. When I said that I was unhappy with their service and attitude, I was told 'tough'.

It turns out, I'm not the only person that has happened to. From talking to other people in the area, quite a few brides and bridesmaids have been let down by Ish

There's a place called Maxine at the junction of Queens Rd and London Rd at Heeley Bottom. We used to take trousers there for the waists to be taken in (narrow waists, wide hips lol)

Although it's really easy to shorten trousers using "no sew" and a damp cloth!

not too far from Eccy Rd up in Crookes is a really great cheap place.
It's basically a shop that sells children's clothes, but do repairs etc.
Cost 50p to sew split trousers, same job in that shop on corner in Broomhill cost £7.50!

Don't know the name unfortunately but its' near to the RSPCA shop on yer right hand side before you get to the Indian on the corner

I think fox20thc is a sewing lady (nearly put sewer!) I can sew (yes, just another one of my myriad talents), but I got 4 kids and no time... pffffft!

They're expensive too ! £10 to shorten a pair of jeans !

Try Terrace Tailors on Westfield Terrace,just off West street, £7.50 to shorten jeans (same day),open at 7.ooam!

I work from home... jeans/skirts/dresses/shirts £5 each to shorten. Quick turnaround if required.
Have done thousands of stuff over the years but currently living in Canada.
Back in the UK for the whole of November if it's any good!

I would always recommend cotton ends in Hillsbrough.

Have been to Stitch it before but they were definately mroe expensive, and my friend had a bit of a bad expereince there with some very oddly taken in trousers.

Johnsons Dry cleaners in town do alterations though you need to call to check when the lady is in. Not the cheapest but found her to be good.

Amie B is now at 21a Meadow Terrace, just off Sharrow Vale Road and just behind the Porter Cottage pub. I just dropped off some stuff for alteration, what a nice woman.

Am wanting a major clothing alteration - not talking trousers taking up.
