Why is it so hard to get a job in sheffield? I hate having to wait to hear back from the agencies and find it extremely difficult to cope with the fact that even with a degree, getting a job is not easy.

I am registered with approximately ten agencies, all of whom i asked to start job hunting for me before i finished my last job, and yet, here i am, in the second week of unemployment, and wondering how i am going to pay the bills next week.

Can anyone help me find a job? I have a 2:1 in Politics and am highly capable at all office duties, have volunteered extensively and managed a range of projects such as a trade union for young people in Barnsley, and the Sheffield Power Inquiry event last September.

Ideally i want to get into training and development, community regeneration, charities etc...but i need something to tide me over in the meantime.

Please please help - i am in despair!

Sorry to hear your plight - I too got a 2:1 in Politics but had to wait an awful long time before finding a job. However once in employment I found my range of skills had increased to such an extent that when I lost that job I had no trouble walking into another one.

Don't put your faith totally in agencies. I visit many employers who wouldn't contemplate engaging agency workers.

Good Luck

I'm sorry to hear about your situation too. I too had to search around for up to a year while I found a graduate position. I think the first step is always the hardest, but speaking to many of my uni friends who have now gone onto different type of jobs. Many who didn't get through the milk round recruitment process just did any type of low level job until opportunities arise.

If I were you, I would try and get myself into the June's milkround, and DO NOT stop to think about whether you want to work elsewhere at first. Just take any job anywhere in the UK. It's best to get the foot on the ladder first and then diversify.

I wish u the best of luck. I know how it feels. Chin up.
Btw, there will be a job fair in Manchester in June too. You can prep yourself for that, while doing some temping work or something. Since exam time is coming up for people, so students may just take a breather.
