Called in to the Regent Terrace Bistro (just off West St) on Friday night and was very pleasantly surprised. Lovely food, nice wine and the most FABULOUS rice pudding. My venison with baked pear was nicely cooked and was accompanied with perfect crunchy veggies.

Unfortunately there was hardly anyone else in there which really is a crying shame :( It was also very very good value for the quality of the food.

We keep moaning about the lack of quality restaurants in Sheffield so I say get yourself along there fast. Show 'em a bit of support!

Turn off West St / Glossop Rd onto Regent Terrace right by Lounge Bar on the corner. Yell link here with address / phone / map (http://www.yell.com/search/DoSearch?state=INI&screen=VAL&targetName=&businessType=&companyName=regent+terrace&location=sheffield&Submit.x=0&Submit.y=0)

I agree the food was excellent!! - as good as Thyme without quite the same pricetag - and you're near some good bars for a pre and post drink. I think it's the old Mr. Kites/Casablancas place isn't it

Dragging this thread up from the depths of the fora to recommend this place along with Tony.

Unbelievable value for money here at lunch...only £5.00 for a full-on meal from salmon to steak. In case you don't get it...that's cheap cheap cheap for a beautiful meal, great service and a friendly place. In fact I felt terrible only paying £5.00 for a meal like that.

Was in yesterday for a fantastic lunch and it was a sad scene as the place is very empty. There is construction on nearby at the moment which I am sure isn't helping them.

So go by and help them out...even you cheap whingers out there.

Have been to Regent Terrace several times and cannot fault the place, the food or service. Have been both for lunches and dinners, everything beautifully cooked and presented. But it's always empty so I fear for its continued existence.

I know I can't figure it out. It has great food and service...but to be honest that doesn't seem to matter to a lot of people in Sheffield  The clincher for Sheffield would seem to be that it is so cheap for what you get....but yet it's still too empty.

Shame if it ends up closing.

Well let's keep doing our bit on here. I think they are hugely lacking in the promotional department, but they deserve lots of success.

I've been to Regent Terrace several times for both lunch and dinner, and every time its been fabulous. But it's always empty, I really can't understand it. Every time I have friends to visit I take them out there for dinner and they all love it. There's a really good selection of food, especially fish (not just salmon). I had the most exquistite venison in a chocolate sauce there. I know it sounds a bit wierd but it was incredible. Also they make their own bread and bring it out warm to your table. Plus home-made fudge with the coffee. It really dosn't get much better.
Good value for money too. Lunch time is just stupidly cheap, while dinner is a little more pricy its still not expensive.
Everyone should go. Eat, drink and be merry.

Sounds lovely! Did anyone happen to notice if theres plenty of vegetarian choice?

My friend who is a vegetarian goes to Regents Terrace quite often. If there's nothing on the menu that appeals, speak to the chef. He's more than happy to make something to order.

I've been along a couple of times too - its a fabulous place - nice ambience and fantastic food! Perhaps we should arrage and forum civilised luncheon there???

It's only real problem is it's a little bit out of the way :( I think it fits very nicely with the lounge - perhaps some sort of reciprocal advertising arangement between the two would be helpful both ways?

Going there tomorrow night. The place does need support. Getting a bit giddy at the thought of that lovely food.:D

Unfortunately, yes I do believe they are closed on Sundays.

Yes this is an excellent place for food - I am happy to give it more plugs !

Shame it suffers really from its location slighty off beaten track of west st but a great discovery !

Went to Regent terrace after reading all the hype on this forum. I didn't find it as amazing as it's made to be. It is a nice place but £15 for a steak which was at best average and the thai noodles were disapointing! it was a shame, think we chose the wrong meal everything else looked lovely and the service was good but don't think i'll be paying another visit!

Am going to give it a go next week... Love the sound of Venison in Chocolate sauce! Have wandered up to have a look before, but they don't have a menu outside.

If you just want to give it a go and don't want to spend £15 go for the lunch menu which is limited but is only £5.

I went last week and it was lovely. Very quiet tho.. which is a shame.. hope everyone starts noticing it and it gets busier. It is kind of tucked away off the beaten track.. someone recomended it to me, otherwise this thread would've been the first I heard of it.

Does anyone know their opening times? Tried calling all day Saturday to make a reservation - no reply, so the four of us just turned up last night 8.45 and it was closed?!

We've also gone on a Wednesday evening, but again all closed?!

Hello All, The regent terrace will reopen this summer as a piano / live music bar, we are knocking through into the building next door which will make a large bar area leading up to the restaurant, i thank you for the reveiws which are warmly received and look forward to seeing you all again soon, one last thing do you like our name as we are considering changing it, thanks again

Yes, the name sounds fine - it tells you where and what it is, so that makes a change from a lot of the other generic chain-names round there!

The name is great! Hope it all goes well. Would love to see you on the same circuit / clientelle as Nonnas and West 10. (Mind you - you migh not :))

Has regents terrace closed down???

carriewarr

I think part of it is being turned into a Piano Bar, due to open later in the year. How long the restaurant will be shut for, I couldn't tell you.

I'm sure someone will be along in a minute with the answer, tho!!

Cheers, Carrie

Walked past the other day, and it doesn't look like anybodies touched it in months. Keep checking it to see what's going on, and no sign of any activity :(

The Chef/Manager who was in charge before it closed is now at the Devonshire Arms at Dore. Not been yet but my Mother and her posse reckon it's good.

The Regent Terrace will open again in November as the Ivory, the project is underway and the venue will host a small baby grand and its very much about promoting local talent.
