No, I've an epidemic in my garden as well.

I was talking about this earlier all the gardens accross the road are covered inthem, there is more yellow then green.

yes...ain't it grand.....dandelions....daisies...those delicate little blue and white multiple-flowered stem things that i don't know the name of....ahhhhh....summer is here at last!

I've heard of Dandelion and Burdock :gag: but never dandelion wine, does it make you wet the bed ? (hence the name pissy beds)

people used to say that if you picked them you would wet the bed !!

I know gardeners hate them, but not being one myself, I think they look quite pretty.:)

Because they have such deep roots you nearly end up digging your garden.

Yeah, I don't get it. At the last possible moment, I used weed and feed last year, but there's tons of the buggers this year. My neighbour's gardens are the same. What can we do? Weed and feed just seems to make the grass look tired and doesn't touch the dandelions.

Definitely seems to be a bumper crop this year.

Just have to bite the bullet and pull em up by hand I think.

there's a saying with dandelions, and probably applies to most weeds...

"one year's seeding, ten years' weeding"

if you let the seeds set, they can remain dormant in your soil for ten years, and keep popping up at inopportune times.

poppies, too,lay dormant, and germination is only triggered by the earth around the seed being disturbed.

Dandelion wine is beautiful. My other half and me spent an hour or so dead heading all the dandelions on a green in front of our house a couple of years ago. We made lots of lovely wine. The only trouble is my head wont take the drink as it is very strong.

we used to call them pee-beds ...and be scared if we touched them we'd wet the bed ...

When you're pulling them up make sure to wear gloves or your hands go black, something to do with the sap. Takes ages to get rid of the stain.

Now if only the myriad slugs and snails would learn to eat the dandelions instead of the precious plants of the garden ... we'd welcome them with glad cries of joy instead of slug pellets ... result!

Isn't puring salt into their core supposed to kill them off?

I did have loads of dandelions in my garden until i cut the lawn yesterday before it rained.

i hate those other weeds where kids pick them and blow all the seeds off!!! :roll:

Yes salt kills plants, if you bruise them by stepping on them and then pour salt on them ... but it also poisons the soil and nothing else will grow there for ages. You can get a cheap weedkiller called sodium chlorate which is basically salt. I sell lots of it ... it's good for places where you don't want to replant like for instance putting down gravel or flags.

ive got loads of the things to but a bit of useless info that u can do with them.the leaves can go in salads(if they are away from chemicals ie roads,or fertalises etc)they are rich in potassium so a good diuretic hence the old name pee the bed so good for water retention and the rootsbeen used as a liver tonic for years to get rid of toxins from the urinal tracks.so by the sounds of it we could all get very drunk on the wine and clean the toxins later lol

i like the sound of the wine, is it actually made from the flowers? Anyone fancy trying to make some ... i'll pick the flowers for you, I do that anyway to stop em seeding.

I remember when we had a rabbit and a guinea pig we were always short in our garden so I use to go round the neighbours collecting juicy morsels for them. This year..with not a dandelion eating pet amongst us... they're taking over everyones gardens. I love the idea of taking them to Thornberry along with my jumble, you reckon they'll welcome a bag of weeds?

Gardening is a pain. My nicely laid gravel are now polluted by weeds, dog poo, cat pee. The dandelions are having a field day ! *sobs*
