June 10th is, as the title indicates, World Wide Knit in Public Day.

Do you knit in public? Do you take your knitting to work? Do you sit in Starbucks (or wherever) and knit while you sip your latte? I do. I don't understand the reticence that some feel about it. It's perfect to while away the occasional commute.

Then again, I have had strangers look at me, and say 'oh, you're knitting!', as if it's the most bizarre thing they've ever seen...

I haven't took mine on the bus or anything (...although seeing as i passed my driving test last week  i haven't been on a bus for awhile anyway) mainly because sometimes you get that cramped up on buses that you cant even read a book without feeling awkward. I would knit in a place like starbucks though i think. I have to go to the garden centre nearby in the summer to sit outside at their cafe because i haven't got a garden, im sure i'll be taking knitting along this year...might give the game away though that im not interested in buying plants. Although i think they caught on last year when i used to go in the afternoon after work at about 2pm, buy the cheapest drinks and stay until they shut lol

I did take my knitting to a local cafe where a little girl who was really interested in what I was doing told me her mother says "Sewing isn't allowed!" She gave up when I told her I was knitting not sewing! Possibly a public servant of the future?

LOL. Sewing isn't allowed? What a miserable thing to say! It's a shame you weren't in the coffee shop at my local branch of Borders at the time. They've just opened an educational toy section there. You could have whispered to the little girl that if she were to ask her mummy to take her down to the toy section, she'd be able to buy a knitting kit of her own, hopefully setting off a bit of pestering. :hihi:
