Have many people been to look around the Millennium Galleries yet?
What did you think, if you have?

Guest 27-01-2003, 22:39 Yes, Rubbish. Another complete waste of money! Chris 06-02-2003, 21:46 Is there an obligation on this site to take posts from people logging in as 'guest' seriously?? Guest - if you're still there, let us know why you think it's rubbish. halevan 03-03-2003, 18:40 Excellent and very educational, although it is a bit above my head, must admit I didnt really take much notice of it over the years and it wasnt on the curriculum when I was at school aeons ago. However, I am not against anything that will stimulate peoples minds and if it contains cultural benefits then I am all for it. :D :D :D Andy 03-03-2003, 19:08 I particularly enjoyed the metalwork gallery. And I don't think you need to be well educated to apprechiate it! Chris 04-03-2003, 10:17 Agreed. They've managed to put on exhibitions and develop displays that don't dumb down but still seem to appeal to a wide range of people. Which makes a nice change :D Hopefully the people behind the Millennium Galleries won't get snapped up by anyone else. I can think of one place in particular which could do with the same intelligent design as that put into the Galleries - the Eden Project. Like the Galleries that's another fantastic building, but is let down by it's contents - information in the place is pathetically dumbed down and that's not necessary. Crafty_cow 17-09-2006, 17:05 Had a look round it a few times and always think there could be more to it and it could feel friendlier but maybe thats just because i think it should be trying to appeal more to the general public. redrobbo 17-09-2006, 17:18 The Treasures of Islam exhibition was exhilarating. HRH Prince Charles came to visit it. Crusader 17-09-2006, 20:38 The design exhibition was the one I saw last, that was really interesting :) purdyamos 17-09-2006, 22:17 It all depends on which exhibitions are ongoing. There have been some that I've spent hours in, seeing world-class pieces or collections overflowing with things to see. There have been some that seemed thin on the ground, or that didn't hold my attention or interest. The kinds of exhibition they have vary enormously, so you can't judge it on one visit. If you're not impressed on one day, six months later they might have a show that blows your mind. They have to cater to differing historical, contemporary, popular tastes. They can't please all the people all the time, but over the space of a year there will be something for everyone. emperor_ming 17-09-2006, 22:29 I quite liked it, in fact my Father in Law even bought a postcard from the gift shop! kat_1b 18-09-2006, 07:23 I think it's fantastic, a great addition to Sheffield. |
