My Nan is 83 years old and lives in a 3 bed semi at Walkley.
However, she would be far better off in a bungalow nearer to us in Upperthorpe.
The problem is she's never had her name down on the council so what are the chances of her getting a bungalow once registered? :help: :help: :help:

The house she is currently in is Sheffield Council.
I would have thought they'd be crying out for 3bed houses tho and kind of expected that might just be to her advantage.

have you thought the reason why she may need a bungalow is because of the stairs and that the house may be too big for her being alone. i know that stair lifts can be fitted and other things but it may the size why she want to move to a bungalow. A bungalow is is also smaller and easier to keep clean and tidy.

No, I meant she's not on the register to be re-homed.
Yeah the stairs are a problem and we also would like her to be closer to us so we can look after her.
Sorry to have confused you.

fill in a rehousing form and put on all the special reasons why she wants to move. Giving up a high demand property (3 bed room house) will be on her side. Also provide any medical evidence of the problems she is having and provide a statement from yourself saying that you will be providing support for her if she moves nearer.
Your Nan has a good case for priority either medical or just on a discresionary basis.
She might get turned down at first be be persistant and make sure you appeal decisions at all stages that are not in your favour.
as to if she will actually get a bungalow that is hard to say - i don't know how many there are in your area and bongalows are in very high demand any way. Would she be happy with a ground floor flat perhaps? - lots of them have patio doors straight out onto a grassesd area so she wouldn't have to loose her garden if that is what she is worried about.
Do also try the housing associations. Their properties are often of a higher standard than the council.

Neeeek has given good advice. 3 bedroom council houses are in short supply. Once your nan is registered, you can ask that she is assessed for support needs, and also for medical needs, its explained here .http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/in-your-area/housing-services/housing-aid/looking-for-a-home/council-housing. First Point at Hillsborough Barracks or the Property Shop in town can help her get on the council register, and should be able to supply a list of housing associations, there is also a list here http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/in-your-area/housing-services/housing-aid/looking-for-a-home/housing-associations. They will also be able to let you know if they have bungalows or flats in the area your nan wants.
