Zoggi 04-05-2006, 19:34 The first one that comes to mind is the Fat Cat. http://www.thefatcat.co.uk/ The home cooked menu is up on the website NorthernSoul 04-05-2006, 19:54 scotsmans pack, hathersage. LHarman 06-05-2006, 09:52 strines or the plough at low bradfield Andy C 07-05-2006, 10:05 Millstone at Hathersage, Castle at Bradway, Royal at Dungworth all spring to mind as well as the above. Strix 07-05-2006, 10:09 The Cricket at Totley (I know the owners are actually French, but I'm sure your clients won't notice ;) ) The reguars are friendly and the views over the cricket pitch and fields are just the thing  Kthebean 07-05-2006, 10:11 The Cricket at Totley (I know the owners are actually French, but I'm sure your clients won't notice ;) ) The reguars are friendly and the views over the cricket pitch and fields are just the thing  How do you get there strix? Looking for somewhere to take the grandparents that sounds perfect :) Strix 07-05-2006, 10:19 drive up abbeydale rd until you get to the bus turnaround at the cross scythes on the right, and the fleur de lys on the left, and hang a right opposite the fleur. Be careful not to get mushed by any speeding 4x4s as you wind down the lane, pass the crown on your left, and turn left down penny lane. It's on your left down penny lane map(ish) (http://www.multimap.com/map/photo.cgi?client=public&X=430250.928493114&Y=380000.293807459&scale=5000&width=700&height=400&gride=430343.928493114&gridn=379998.293807459&lang=&db=GB&coordsys=gb) if you hover over it. The pub is the building to the left of the red circle  Guest_225 07-05-2006, 11:04 drive up abbeydale rd until you get to the bus turnaround at the cross scythes on the right, and the fleur de lys on the left, and hang a right opposite the fleur. Or stop at the Crown which is also a nice pub doing home cooked food Strix 07-05-2006, 11:19 the Crown? You have to have a wax jacket to get in there though, and if you want to be treated like you've crawled out from under a stone, then I suppose it's okay. The inconsiderate parking outside tells you what the clientelle is like The food's better at the cricket too ;) Rich 07-05-2006, 11:27 Robin Hood at Little Matlock does good food, and it's fairly cheap as well... Also the Landlord's Daughter is gorgeous  happyhippy 07-05-2006, 14:15 The George, Castle Street, Castleton. Fantastic place. Three Stags Heads at Wardlow Mires, just watch out for the bloody beagles .... really friendly farm pub, and the Barrel at Foolow has some of the best scenery, food and beer ever ...... taxman 07-05-2006, 15:44 The George, Castle Street, Castleton. Just don't ask for Lager at the Three Stags Heads as a punch in the face often offends Strix 07-05-2006, 15:47 ...bloody beagles .... Oi!!! What's wrong with beagles? :suspect: ___f 07-05-2006, 16:08 Shoulder of Mutton in Worrall (Top Road i think). Good food and proper beer aswell. happyhippy 08-05-2006, 18:53 Oi!!! What's wrong with beagles? :suspect: Nothing wrong with em at all, just the ones in there are totally wappy ;) They sometimes have a habit of being, erm, 'overfriendly' ..... not to mention 'overplayful' ..... they're harmless though ..... I love doogies ..... Guest_225 08-05-2006, 19:54 the Crown? You have to have a wax jacket to get in there though, and if you want to be treated like you've crawled out from under a stone, then I suppose it's okay. The inconsiderate parking outside tells you what the clientelle is like The food's better at the cricket too ;) Oi, I go in there and I'm certainly not one of the wax jacket people! Another example of inverse snobbery on SF perhaps? I've been in a few times and the food is home cooked and the beer's good which makes it better than 90% of other pubs where they serve microwave ****e. I'll try The Cricketers too now - never been there yet. Strix 09-05-2006, 01:39 We gave up on the Crown after being lectured on two consecutive visits about not letting our silent dog make as much noise as one that was in there a couple of weeks before, and having to wait ferkin ages for the landlord to finish t4lking to the only other customer in the place before condescending to serve us  Nothing to do do with inverse snobbery.... we're not from Sheffield ;) 2wentypence 09-05-2006, 08:57 Sportsman Lodgemoor |
