Does anyone recall Eric who for may years kept the Barber shop on Leppings Lane. He was a smashing chap. Is he still around I wonder?
The alternative Barber was Baylis'. Two brothers, if I recall correctly, one named Tom after who the shop was better known. Their premises stood at the top of Leppings Lane.
Ken, Eric and I went to Owler Lane School in the 50's. We were mates until his death at the Northern Gen about 7 years ago. He was my best man at my 1st wedding when I was in the navy. His 1st wife Pat is still in contact with me and spends most of her time in Canada. He died of bowel cancer after returning from Cyprus under doctors orders. He will be remembered as a good fisherman, good barber and an extremely close mate. I miss him.

Was this the one that was almost next to the Leppings Lane entrance to the Wednesday ground?
If it is the same place ,the first memories I have of getting my hair cut ,(must be 1944-5) was there .A female barber worked there and a taper was used to finish off the job

That would be Tom's, he was as blind as a bat and wore beer bottle bottom glasses. He always finished with a taper.
In 1956 I had my haircut there, changed from what had previously been a standard side parted short back and sides, to a longer, cool, swept back, non parted look. Now my parting seems to be back, but with more parting than hair.

I'm so sorry to hear that Eric has passed on. He first cut my hair when I was a child of around say 7 years old, He used to entertaintain me with a Mr Punch puppet. I later new him as a drinking companion at the Travellers.
As you say, Josssman, A great bloke.
