View Full Version : Pet grooming costs 'v' DIY
Don_Kiddick 04-05-2006, 01:09 Got a quote for £17 to have the mutt bathed, trimmed, etc from a pet groomers.
I thought this was excessive as i don't pay that much to have my own hair cut!
So I had a bash at home.
Top Tip - never ever do this - it's worth the expense. Really.

The poor critter in Don's picture is Sam. The World's Ugliest dog. (http://samugliestdog.com/) Sam passed away last year, but his owner still blogs (http://samugliestdog.typepad.com/blog/) about him. Check out the pictures of TaterTot, Sam's sweetheart. :hihi:

Plain Talker 04-05-2006, 07:44 OMG! yipe! I think that picture needs to carry a government warning!
As B&B said, definitely a face only a mother could love. (The poor thing!)
Don, you're cruel! ;) Why 'd you let him climb up the ugly-tree, knowing he was gonna fall out and hit every branch on the way down? ;)
lol

tbh thats good considering what gets done to the dog & the time it takes. i'm ashamed to say that i used to work for a dog grooming chain in doncaster. so you have to brush all the dead hair out, then bath em, brush there teeth with a special dog tooth brush & paste, squeeze the anal glands, then condition em, dry them with a towel, brush them while hair drying them with a masive doggy hair dryer (which actually takes lodes longer then you think). then you brush more (for ages, you have to really get all the dead hair out), then the nails get cliped & finally more brushing & fur trimmed if requested.
i enjoyed dog grooming but its a hard job, long hours for pittance but it great to see the dog come in looking well scruffy & smelly & going out smelling & looking nice. i really enjoyed it there but it really was pittance for the 10 hours you had to work a day & it was scortching hot in summer with all those hasive dog hairdryers. also atleast a year after i quit i was still pulling dog hairs outa my eyes.
Poor Sam was 14 years old when that photo was taken. He was a Hairless Chinese Crested and would've looked far better looking when he was younger but this old chap was just getting old bless him.
The competition is in America and personally I don't like the idea of competing for "World's Ugliest Dog" but his owner loved him very much and Sam became a famous face.
Sorry to be soooooo serious! I just really liked this old boy!
