our house has rendering around the bottom part which comes off due to dampness, I believe, and we were wondering, instead of renewing the rendering parts to take it off altogether. Can anyone recommend a builder for this job?

Doesn't sound like taking it off will be a problem - hammer & cold chisel will do the job! But it is what you want to do with it afterwards? Look round your local area to see who has had work done recently & ask them if they recommend their builders.
