Yep its ok - not fully mature yet as its only about 10 - 15 years old.
Its ok if you dont want to join a club and play a couple of times a year.
Longish course. Par 3 pitch and putt course is a bit poor.

There are some great private course around Sheffield, but we are talking mega bucks to join or play as a guest.

It's a good course to have a social round on. It's actually the first course I ever played and on a good day I can comfortably shoot around 105 (against an average of about 115). Don't take that to mean that it's an easy course - it's a good play if you're shooting straight, but if you're a bit wayward it'll eat you (especially the 10th & 18th - they pass the only MAJOR water feature on the course and a poor drive will ruin your round).

It's pretty open, and the weather really does play a part - most of the fairways are pretty wide and forgiving, but the rough makes up for it by being, in places, unrecoverable.

Finally, if it's wet, you'll struggle. The drainage isn't fantastic, and on some holes you can quite easily play out of, and into, sheet water. Having said that, if you treat the standing water (only on REALLY bad days mind) as a feature of the course, it can make it a really interesting round, depends on your handicaps !!!

If you want my advice, the best course in the region is College Pines near Worksop - for around £20 you get everything a course can throw at you but still get a really enjoyable day into the bargain :)

thanks guys

College pines is a bit too far out (staying in sheffied city centre for the weekend).
Sounds like this Rother Valley should do the job for a bunch of hungover lads on a weekend away ;)
Just hope it isn't very busy and slow...

You should be fine - they're pretty good at keeping it rolling up there. They do take Pay & Plays though - the earlier you're teeing off the better :)
