View Full Version : What makes a classic car? spyro2000 02-05-2006, 01:10 What stats does a car have to have in order for it to be a classic? Phylis 02-05-2006, 06:42 It used to be that the car had to be over 25 years, but that has gone down the pan now. The rarer the model the earlier it will become a classic. Some classic car insurance companies will insure cars older than 15 as a classic. To sum taht up then who knows what a classic is anymore? deano 13-05-2006, 06:39 Classics are getting more and more "modern" all the time, early mazda mx5's are featuring in classic car magazines loads now. The rule of thumb from an insurance point of view is fifteen years old,but even then it's at their discretion. There is a lot of snobbery about classic cars,if it's a classic in your eyes, and you lavish care and attention on it to keep it running then it's a classic. spyro2000 13-05-2006, 12:01 Would you calls a Ford RS Turbo as a classic? teeny 13-05-2006, 12:13 no but a p6 v8 has a good rumble deano 13-05-2006, 18:22 Would you calls a Ford RS Turbo as a classic? Yeah,it's an early eighties icon! stackmonkey 04-07-2006, 16:10 Classics are getting more and more "modern" all the time, early mazda mx5's are featuring in classic car magazines loads now. Managed to get classic insurance for mine this year at 10 years old :) Skatiechik 06-07-2006, 15:23 Would you calls a Ford RS Turbo as a classic? Of course you would, not my taste in car but I bet there is a big following for them. Nimrod 06-07-2006, 15:29 Is a Ford Sierra a classic?? It was certainly an icon and one of the most common cars on the road. Its styling alone made it an icon. Phylis 07-07-2006, 07:05 The MK1 Sierras have become classics now. There is a huge following for the sportier models but people are beginning to collect the run of the mill models. A 1300 3 door brings big money now. liam_vw 23-07-2006, 12:44 over 15 years old.. rarer cars.. special looking cars.. iconic cars medusa 23-07-2006, 12:56 Some people thought my old lady of a 16 year old SAAB 9000 was a shed when I bought her- but even they agreed that she was a classic after I'd used 3 weeks of the apprentice's time on the paintwork and wheels, and done a decent service and full valet on her. It's all in the eyes of the person who owns the car- if you think your car's a classic then don't let anybody else try to change your mind. The really sad thing is that I had to sell my SAAB when I could no longer maintain her myself due to increasing disabilities- and the divot who bought her failed to check both dipsticks and therefore missed the transmission oil leak and the auto gearbox seized only 3 weeks after he bought her off me- so she was taken apart for spares (how criminal is that?). imjustagirl 26-08-2006, 09:22 Would you calls a Ford RS Turbo as a classic? maybe not so much the rs,,, but possibly the 1600i.....in my eyes anyway:rolleyes: |
