Reasonably excited about seeing the film now I've seen the trailer - does anyone else think that Tom Hanks is virtually unrecognisable as Robert Langdon and looks eerily like Michael Barrymore?

I don't understand why they didn't make Angels and Demons first

Its a much better book (Dan Browns best one imo) and probably a much better movie.

I don't think either of them are particularly good books - but the Da Vinci Code will court more controversy.

Neither do I. Didn't enjoy them at all.

Blimey, I loved the Da Vinci Code I couldn't put it down. I'm looking forward to the film but I don't want to be disappointed because the books are always better than the films! (IMHO).

I loved the da vinci code, read it not long after it came out i think, just recently re-read it though. I wanted to do a re-read this time with the illustrated version, with all the photos in but looked on amazon and it was like £20 which i couldn't quite justify when i got the paperback on the bookcase. I am interested in watching the film, out of curiousity. But i agree with Lou, films aren't usually a patch on the books. im not gonna even start on how bad the harry potter films are!!

I don't think they are great either, just that Angels and Demons is the best out of the ones he has written :)

My main problem with Dan Brown is that he thinks he's a much better writer than he actually is. Once you've read one of his books you can see every plot twist that is going to happen in the rest.

It's likely to be drivel, most of Ron Howards' films are.

If anyone is interested, check out the Da Vinci Code special that Time Team made last year. It pours scorn on Dan Brown's ridiculous and plagiarised notions.

Since when are the Oscars a good yardstick for measuring the quality of films?

Other terrible films to have won Oscars;

Titanic
Rocky
Gladiator
Forrest Gump
Gone With The Wind
Shakespear In Love

Winning an oscar for a film means you have reached the pinnacle in film making.
Simple as that really.

You cant really argue with the fact that from your personal view that those films are terrible as I'm sure a lot of people will beg to differ with you.

Also Titanic is one of the biggest grossing movies of all time.

Hmmmmm. This is an issue of personal opinion, but it is very rare for the best films to even be nominated for the Oscars, let alone win one.

I'm sure they would. But they would all be wrong ;)

Also Titanic is one of the biggest grossing movies of all time.

Still doesn't mean it's any good.

The Spice Girls, Boyzone and Take That were among the biggest selling acts of the 90's.

Sales is not always a reflection of quality.

Assuming the film is anything like the book.........

.........then it will begin to resemble an episode of Scooby-Doo before it's half way through.

And I'd have gotten away with it, if it weren't for you meddling religious conspiracy theorists!

I think I'd rather rub vandal grease in my eyes than read Da Vinci code. I've read excerpts and it's really trashy, but not in a good way.

Thats a really funny post.... nice one.

The scary thing about the Da Vinci Code is the scary number of people who read it and thought it was true... bless the number of kids at school who have asked me to teach them all about the book in their RE lessons and asked me if I know "that woman who is related to Jesus"...I suppose I should be glad they're reading...

One good point from the book that came out ...

Is the bible the greatest story sold....

or is it the greatest story told.

Look at how much money the church has benefited from religion. It is a good debating topic and one I don't have an answer to.

Back to the point though, the trailer doesn't look particularly interesting.

Finding out Ron Howard is behind it didn't exactly inspire confidence either.
