I an tracing my family tree and have come up with the name of a Pub, The Royal Hotel. This pub was in Carbrook. Now I know it may well have been demolished but I would still like to know where abouts it was.
I am going back to 1871 but even so I thought the likes of Brooksy might know of it.
Heres hoping you can put my mind at rest. Thanks

Only three 'Royal Hotels' in the 1901 directory, and none of them in Attercliffe/Carbrook area. Pubs in that era were 'here today - gone tomorrow' ventures; your best bet is to check the local directories in the Local Studies library.
BTW Brooksy isn't that old :hihi:

What was the name of the pub on the corner of Attercliffe Common and Broughton Lane? was that the Royal?
I remember it had a curved frontage as it followed the corner.
also look on picturesheffield, mrsnoo there might be pics on there of the area that may unravel this mystery.

The pub on the corner of Attercliffe Common and Broughton Lane was called the Broughton if my memory is correct.
I know that they were not in the pub in 1881, but in 1871 my great great grandmother died there. But as Greybeard says pubs were here today gone tommorrow just like today.
I didn't think Brooksy was that old ......wel not really lol
mrsnoo if you go on to this website called sheffieldpubs.fsnet.co.uk you will see all the pubs what was and what is now. I have just had a look for the royal hotel and there is only 3 listed. what you could do is get intouch with the person who as done the web site and maybe they will be able to help you. what about trying the archives in sheffield library they should be able to help you or failing that why dont you try the births marriages deaths place in the town hall they have got records going way back they might be able to help you.
I've just had a look at picture sheffield and found nothing (but if you have more info, you may be able to find something I couldn't).
What was the name of the pub on the corner of Weedon Street that was tiled all over, and was only demolished recently?
It's probably also worth bearing in mind that it may have suffered a name change somewhere along the line - like that pub that has 'the pheonix' carved in all its interior glass, but is called something silly and modern outside.

hello mrsnoo
The royal was on the corner of MONS street and Attercliffe common.
to the best of my husbands knowledge [remembers]the last landlord / landlady were called BARRY AND GLENDA
someone else took it over when Barry and Glenda moved to worksop.
it was demolished in the late 70's early 80's and was a stone's house, the Royal was opposite the Red Lion on the other corner of Mons Street, Attercliffe. which became a doss house in the 50's

you are on about the COMMERCIAL, on the corner of weedon street,
the tiled pub you mention was called the BURNS HOTEL this did have cream and green tiles on. and was situated at the end of lock house lane and sheffield road. [an ex carbrook resident]
