Just managed to release it with a very fine knife, but is this something to worry about in the longer term????

Yes, my advice would be to buy a replacement CD Rom Drive for your computer, they only cost about £15 nowadays and it will ensure you don't run into the same problem in the near future.

Remember, the CD that might end up damaged in the CD Rom drive you have currently could be worth over £15, it's a sure thing investment.

is this a continuing problem or has it just happened this once.

Also in future instead of using a knife find a tiny pin or really fine needle. On most cd/dvd drives there is a tiny hole usually found just beneath the tray. If you poke into there it will push the cd tray out without trying to break into it like a chav on a bentley :hihi:.

Dont know if you knew that or not but id say unless the drive is either ripping up discs, getting stuck way too much or is having alot of trouble reading clean discs then keep with what you have.

Hope that helps

That's really helpful although it's the first instance. No I didnt know that; I did know it wasnt such a grand idea to stick a knife, however fine the blade, into one of the sides in order to release the spring.
