Inspired by a thread on the main forum, I've been having a little look on the internet for contemporary artists who use fibre in their work. The searching is still in progress, but I was particularly inspired by the work of Yvette Kaiser Smith (http://www.kaisersmith.com/ImagesH.htm). She combines crocheted fibreglass with resins, enamel and wood to produce some really beautiful pieces. Highly recommended.
If anyone is interested in the textile arts, then I really recommend seeking out the American publication 'Fiber Arts' (http://www.fiberarts.com/). Although it isn't devoted exclusively to knitting and crochet, it has some fascinating articles as well as featuring the work of international textile artists.
