Can anyone tell me where the myth about Yorkshiremen putting ferrets down their trousers comes from? I have lived in Yorkshire all my life and never seen anyone do it. Are there some parts of Yorkshire where it actually happens or is it just a myth amongst people from outside Yorkshire.

Well I have three ferrets (they smell though...but they use a litter tray so it's not all bad :S) and I always threaten people with that!

I'm sure people used to do it...my mum's other half is a Yorkshire tradition stalwart...I'll ask him.
