How many fingers do you use when typing?

I go mainly with 4, that’s seem to be enough to get the proper rate. Don’t know exact wpm result, but sure if I’d go ten-finger typing it would be worse! So should this be changed? :)

10 are required for full touch typing.
I'm lazy and probably use about 8.

Ooh! 8 fingers. Great!

You are not lazy, Cyclone. Not at all.

Think how many people resort to 2.

I do touch type, but I reckon I must use 9 fingers as I can't think of an occasion when I would use my left thumb. I taught myself using a book so I dare say my technique is not 100% officially approved.

Oops, its the 5th finger!:wow:

8 Fingers, Both Thumbs

When my right thumb gets tired the left automattically kicks in lol. But usually I use the right thumb on the space bar. The left thumb is usually resorted to lowly presses of Ctrl, Alt or Shift

I scoffed at Mavis Beacon's touch typing until I was seriously bored one week at work and had very little else to be doing so I decided to learn...

Only did about 2 days worth of lessons but my style and skills improved dramatically... now using all bar my left thumb now...

somewhere in the region of about 50 wpm speed as many will attest trying to get a word in edgeways when I'm in the chat room :D

I learnt touch typing at school instead of doing a "proper" GSCE :P at least it helps me type up essays that little bit more quicker than some, but you can get the odd amusing typo when your fingers go to fast for your brain :D

mainly just use the 8 fingers to type, the thumb only comes in to hit the space key!

Thank the lord for the opposable digit eh? otherwiseallsentenceswouldbelikethis :P :P :loopy:

There's only one problem with touch typing... and that's the garbage that comes out when you try to type drunk and your fingers have lost their normal rest position to be off by one key..

So you end up with stuff like this...

pj ,u hpf//// jpe nsf od yjsy...

:D

touch typing is the least of my problems when drunk. The drivel I post would be better typed using the wrong keys!

I resort to typing very slowly and deliverately when drunk.

Yeah, when drunk it's one finger time.

I use a variety of fingers. My right little finger is used for the shift key and enter. My right thumb is used for the space bar. I normally use my second and third fingers on both hands for the rest of the keys, and occasionally my fourth finger.

I can't touch type, but I can type reasonably fast. It's amazing how you instinctively know where the keys are when you spend your life using computers.

On a related note, does anyone know who invented the QWERTY keyboard? I'd be interested to find out the reasons behind the positions of the keys.

Factioid: The longest word you can type using only the top line of the keyboard is....TYPEWRITER!

(Go on...someone prove me wrong....)
