View Full Version : The cost of an average night out
Does anyone remember when you could go out with £20, hit a few bars and onto a nightclub, grab a ratburger and get a taxi home!! the average night out now is around £50/£60! no wonder i dont get about as much anymore. . . How much do you normally spend on a Fri or Sat night?
Skatiechik 06-05-2004, 20:32 How much :o I normally spend about £15. But then I suppose I am a woman, :P Men buy us drinks :D
mr craig 06-05-2004, 20:34 When i first started going out about 8-9 years it used to be £20 tops, usually more like £15. Then it started going up and up till it got to about £60-£70 a night at the weekend.:loopy:  :partyhat:
On a fri/sat night now its usually around £30-£35 ish. I dont tend to drink no where near as much as i used too,i don't really go clubbing that much at all now, plus living in towm means no taxi fares home, but thats more than balanced out by the stupid amout of rent i pay!!!!! lol
I think the ammount drinks have gone up in the last 18 months or so has a lot to do with it. Can't believe the inflated prices these days. When you think on average, a fiver gets you 2 drinks. it's just silly.

Sola & The Wig and Pen = £3 a pint
I think the breweries and bars have realised that no matter what they charge, we will pay it. Similar, student nights aren't really cheap like they used to be. again, clubs have realised that people will pay the prices. I suppose we only have ourselves to blame for throwing our cash at them. As much as i resent the cost of drinks, it's not like i refuse to pay it or anything. Just put up with spending more money.
the problem for the clubs and the bars are that costs are now very expensive......my friend was telling me that the venue she works in used to pay £5k insurance 3 yrs ago, and now its £25K :o :o :o and they've never had any claims. Not a wonder there is sooo many fewer clubs these days.
eventually those costs get passed onto customers!!! :(
I used to spend £30-40 when I started going out about 6 years ago (back home in Peterborough). Then last year was spending about £50-60, again in Peterborough, now having moved to Sheffield the equivilent night out costs £35-45... and there's way more choice! Still manage to blow £60 on a silly night though....

I didnt think there was anything in Peterborough worth spending that much on!!!! j/k :)
Spent quite a bit of time down there, nice town,is the that boat whats a bar still there, man i've been drunk in there.
Mosherchik 07-05-2004, 17:51 Normally I can manage a decent night out on £30 and I think even that is extorntionate! I dunno I must be a cheapskate :D
£8-£10 normally covers for the cab back home (unless Im sharing, in which case I just give em money that I think weighs enough to be right :P  )
£5-£8 normally covers getting in to a club
which leaves me with about £17-£12 left on drinks
Whoo get me madam budget!
Altho I have had incredibly blurry nights out on a tenner and managed to come back with more money than I started with somehow :loopy:

lol :D Im an innocent me!!! Maybe its because I look that destitute, I inspire pity. Or maybe its I get too forgetful about giving change back to people :o
fnkysknky 08-05-2004, 10:33 Anything from £20-£150 depending on where I'm going, usually around £40-£50 though if I'm out drinking.
slimsid2000 08-05-2004, 14:26 Usually less than £3. I bet that's hard to beat!

Hehe, that sounds like a litre of woodpecker cider, a bag of chips and a park bench ;)
Tally_84 08-05-2004, 17:18 the leadmill is still fairly cheap tho....i can normally hit a few of the less "trendy" boozers then the leadmill with about £35 - £40. The freakin taxi home is what ****** me off- over a tenner now to get to shiregreen from town......seems two minutes since it was half that!
I can just about scrape through a night down t'pub on a fiver, on 2 pints of Tetleys and a bag of either cheese and onion or beef crisps.
Im in Delhi at the moment and with beer about 60p a large bottle and a rickshaw upwards of 20p ,nights out on a £10 are incredibly messy .
But back in Sunny Sheff £30 - £40 and i don't have to get a cab can walk home !
Used to live out in the stix tho and a cab was £12 - £14 ....
Tho have noticed that b 4 I came out here a lot of bars had offers on, like £1.50 a pint stella in revolution up till 8pm so that helps !

£1.95 a pint now :(
Still its better than £2.60 i suppose. I was in there the other night and the kid in front of me bought a bottle of smirnoff ice, £3.20,now that is very, very silly.
AngelEyes 09-05-2004, 14:38 £2.70 a pint in the revolution now
magicgem 09-05-2004, 14:57 I only spend about £15?! £20 if im pushing it?
It clearly pays to be a lightweight
student union and leadmill on a monday night = cheap!
walk home with friends after that if its a good night, takes about 1.5hrs but its nice and quiet and exercise is good, right?
i can't be arsed drinking much anymore because its basically like pissin' money away (think about it).
anyone who feels they NEED alcohol to have a good night out should take a good look at themselves.
good music on the other hand... ;)
I usually spend about £5~10 on a night out
Spread out the drinks and keep off the leffe and im quids in
went out on friday at about 10 o'clock....was on the guest list for the first club then found tweny quid in the toilets!
Got to the 2nd club about 2:30, doorman let us in, nobody on the box office so got in free agian, and was dancing away till 5:30
...why can't all nights work out like this?!
friday and saturday nights are becoming ridiculously expensive :( monday is still really good value especially if you flash your NUS card about!! i can get away with £10 if i go to some student bars and then to leadmill or corperation (dirty, dirty, full of 14 year olds - vodka shots for 50p though :D ). i normally share the taxi with 3 or 4 others so i suppose that cuts the costs. the only problem is if i have to get up on tuesday!
mr.blaze 10-05-2004, 12:35 The amount it costs to go out in sheffield is just getting silly now. I spend about £50-£70 a night at weekends. If only you could get into a night in town with an 8 pack of cans.
claiireee 10-05-2004, 14:20 Woah, I'd never spend that much on a night out. I can usually manage £15-20. That includes entry to a club and taxi. Usually have a few drinks in a bar, but once in a club I don't bother. Also if you have drinks before going out it's better. Also helps having lots of male friends who buy you drinks and don't expect any in return :)

yea us blokes are good like
karandak 10-05-2004, 19:27 Well i spend anything between £0.00/2.00 - £40.00!
I generally drive most places, so i buy a bottle of water for the night, and dont always pay club entry cos of knowing various people! Always like those cheap nights hehe, i dont need alcohol to have fun!
The big expense if i wasnt driving would be the taxi, costs me around £17.00 to get home (more often than not, will be sharing with someone, but its still dear that way), so if thats the case, i generally have some drinks before i go out to save a bit of money before i have to start buying some of the exortionaly (sp?) priced drinks in clubs etc...

Peterborough has got better... but still a long way from worthwhile!
Yeah, think you're on about Charters - good selection of largers there.
