View Full Version : Where can I play squash? MuteWitness 25-01-2003, 11:49 i want to play squash as ive not played for ages, but i dont want to pay high membership fees is there anywhere i can just pay everytime i go? mikey 25-01-2003, 15:05 Loads of places Mainly council run sports halls Dronfield Sports centre Concord Sports centre Hillsboro leisure centre I am sure there are more napix 11-06-2003, 16:33 :( I dont think Hillsboro do squash- just tennis and the such. Jon 11-06-2003, 18:36 Concord Sports centre is a very good place to play squash..A tip for you go friday afternoon its empty and you can play as long as you want  Tony Ruscoe 11-06-2003, 18:46 I've played at Concord before. I used to play at the University's sports centre, but had to stop when they started refurbishing it. It's now called USport: http://www.usport.co.uk (I'm not sure whether it's available to the public... but worth a look.) Try this too: http://www.sivltd.com (That lists all Sheffield's sports and fitness venues I think.) HTH nightrider 22-01-2005, 13:09 Hi, I just moved to Sheffield and want to find some people to play squash with? Any advice on friendly clubs to join? Or is anyone else looking for someone to play squash with? Cheers, Mark crewnet 24-01-2005, 11:21 I'll be delighted to play squash with u. as currently still searching people to play with. spinac 25-01-2005, 07:49 I'm thinking of starting up a small league at Concorde sometime later this year as part of my Sports and Social Network www.spinac.com . (Squash is one of those games where if there's any difference in abilities, the points flow all one way so it's best to find a partner of similar ability). Concorde currently closed for refurbishment ... you should check out Abbeydale and Hallamshire clubs if you're serious about the game (http://www.hallamts.org/club_location.asp http://www.abbeydalepark.co.uk/) Alaskan 23-02-2005, 00:46 Hi there, I'm new in Sheff and am looking for a good place to play squash/racketball. I play at a beginner/intermediate standard. Cheers, Alaskan unners 23-02-2005, 13:12 There is a sqaush club at Birley,or you could try Concord Leisure centre up at Shiregreen or Dronfield Leisure Centre where i used to play a few years back,i must try and get back into it. scottf 23-02-2005, 14:00 The tennis club just after hunters bar roundabout play it there. philroffe 23-02-2005, 22:33 Goodwin, part of Sheffield Uni but you don't need to be a student to play. The courrts are pretty good too. http://www.shef.ac.uk/usport/facilities/squash.html Also Halam Uni have squash courts, but they're not as nice and I think you have to be a student. philroffe 23-02-2005, 22:58 I like to play but don't know many people who like it. I'd be interested in having a game if you're still looking. philroffe 23-02-2005, 23:01 Also, you can play at Abbeydale Park Rackets & Fitness Club. http://www.abbeydalepark.co.uk/ May_Dupnam 24-02-2005, 08:51 Maybe we could have an evening at Concorde where we suss each other out? I've played in leagues before (never very high up though) and have a friend in High Green who might join us. I was thinking of a Monday, Friday or Sunday evening - what do you think? pjhenney 27-02-2005, 22:18 Try the Hallamshire. Bottom of Hunters Bar pj marmite 01-03-2005, 20:33 Hallamshire tennis club is the best place i know. They have quite a few squash/racketball courts but i think u have to be a member. Abbeydales a good bet, i think they do squash. Hope that helped, hallmshire is my recommendation marmite 01-03-2005, 21:12 squash/racketball courts are v.good at hallmshire tennis and squash club, members can take guests for free, if u know a member of course. im not sure if your not a member wether u can play, deffinatly worth checking out- good leagues aswell and social nights goldenspiral 09-04-2007, 22:56 Maybe we could have an evening at Concorde where we suss each other out? I was a High Greener before I moved to Warren still play squash occasionally but partner lives in Loughborough and rarely comes up. It would be nice to set up with someone for a weekly or twice weekly game. I usually go to Concord and sometimes Barnsly metrodome (when concord was having the face lift) email me if intreasted then i'll give out mobile number and some other details. cheers for reading Mark MissChatter 12-04-2007, 10:30 I recommend Abbeydale Sports Club. I know they do a squash social on a sunday evening. It is a good way of getting to know people they also have squash leagues and stuff like that. Phone 0114 2367011 marmite 13-04-2007, 17:25 For some totally random and useless information, the post number 17 was my first ever post on SF....and i still rate Hallamshire today. goldenspiral 18-05-2007, 12:53 Thanks eclair but i've seen their subscription prices too....ouch Tartempion 18-05-2007, 13:20 I play at Stocksbridge Leisure Centre. It's a bit of a way out though unless you live anywhere nearby. goldenspiral 20-05-2007, 00:14 dont live too far out if you fancy a game, i live over at chapeltown kid krypton 24-10-2007, 23:43 Hallamshire is the best, for what you pay it is top value. The staff are friendly and there are loads of leagues and activities. You can play in daytime leagues or ladies only leagues. There are about 30 divisions so you get to play loads of different people. The Club night is Sunday, I think. The courts are the best ive seen. Ok its not cheap but its well placed. I've tried others but by far Hallamshire is the best. spinac 25-10-2007, 06:53 If you can aford a private club such as Hallamshire then I'm sure that's best (I used to play at Brampton Manor in Chesterfield and Chapel Allerton in Leeds and both were excellent - great facilities and you're never stuck for a partner of similar ability in the leagues). If the membership fees are an issue then you can join the new leagues set up at Concord (just 3 leagues at the moment). You just split court cost with your playing partner. Concord Tel: 0114 257 0053 walder 25-10-2007, 16:16 There used to be a converted church in Wath that was a resonably priced squash club. |
