Hey all

Just wondering, anyone got any advice about camping with a dog?

I don't let my dog of her lead, she doesn't bark and is very, very friendly! I'm just not sure where she should sleep, don't really want to share a tent with her as she can get rather smelly! It's been suggested she could sleep in our car but I'm not too happy shutting her in there all night. Any ideas!? :help:

Alternatively get an army surplus poncho and rig it over the entrance of your tent to form a porch where the pooch can sleep. A piece of thin upholstery foam would be a good idea to insulate her body from the cold ground, it’d be a good idea to tie her lead to a corkscrew ground spike on the outside edge of the porch (not your tent poles!) in case she decides to chase a rabbit in the middle of the night, she can still wee on the grass by going just outside and of course you’ve got the option of leaving one of your tent flaps open to keep an eye on her.

Also never let them map read or set the tent up :D

Some good ideas there, thanks.

Mantaspook, I hope you're not speaking from experience when you say not to let her take over the map reading or tent erecting! :hihi:

Yes I am speaking from experience.

Whilst the advice in this instance relates to bitches I could not possibly comment whether it could be applied to females in general. Ahem.

On a practical note, dog pee can de-proof your tent so make sure it doesn't happen to you, or that your pooch stays away from tents when it's toilet time. Not to mention that is stinks when you put your tent away.

Wouldn't it just be easier to bath the dog before you go away?

If you plump for the dog bag thing, make sure you get the dog used to it before you go away, else you could have a battle on your hands, and a shredded dog bag :D

We might finally get to take Brude camping this year.
I wonder what he'll make of us all sharing a tent - not disimilar to his canvas travel cage :hihi:
