View Full Version : Wedding Venues in SY or Derbyshire
HarrietStar 26-04-2006, 15:29 Hi,
I have recently got engaged and am hoping to get married in Derbyshire or South Yorkshire - I would like a civil ceremony in a pretty country house or hotel with nice gardens or countryside to take the photos. It needs to hold about 55 for the ceremony and 70-80 for the reception - does anyone know of anywhere suitable?
I have looked at numerous places but was hoping someone may suggest venues I haven't found/looked at yet - I would welcome personal reccomendations/experiences too!
Thanks, Harriet

Have you tried Wortley Hall - beautiful grounds & views. Google for venues - there are quite a lot of nice places - but also nice prices! Good luck.
babychickens 26-04-2006, 16:27 i went to a wedding at wortley hall a while ago, it was a really nice venue. sounds about the right size for what you want, too. close enough to sheffield to get a taxi home, too, thereby making it a much cheaper day out than most weddings i've been to recently. made us a bit more generous with the present, too...

PaulGalpin 26-04-2006, 16:39 Would recommend Whirlowbrook Hall as well - we got married there in 2004 and had a brilliant day. Couldn't fault the staff and organisation. Nice garden for pictures.

loveablesoul 26-04-2006, 18:32 I had my reception at Makeney Hall Hotel, Belper, Derbyshire
The most amazing venue ever and the service and support by the staff was outstanding
Attended marriages at both Hassop Hall and Eyam Hall last year and both offer a wonderful venue. Both will also cope with those numbers, although Eyam tends to use marquees and you probably would need to sort out your own caterers.
Also been to Whirlowbrook in the past and if you want somewhere closer to town then this is very suitable, although the fact the grounds are open to other visitors means that end up with some spectators during the course of the day. Hope it goes well for you.
gadgetgals 26-04-2006, 20:48 harriet- we have our civil partnership in a holiday let in derbyshire with about 70 people. It's not registered so we did the legal bit a few days before and our own ceremony at the venue. It has 8-9 bedrooms (so lots of folks could stay over) and big kitchen and lounge area. If you're interested email me and I'm happy to give some pics.

gadgetgals 26-04-2006, 20:49 NB* the makeney hall is down the road and we had overflow guests going there and joined them for breakfast next day-worked well!
TheRedWizard 26-04-2006, 21:17 We're getting married at Wortley Hall in a couple of months - head up there and wander around on a sunny evening. It's gorgeous (and the website doesn't do it justice)!

We had 57 for an amazing sit down dinner (people still talk about the desert!) and 150 for the disco. I know the bride/groom are meant to leave early - but we were last out, shutting the door at about 2:30!!
Got married Maynard Arms. july las year.
