Just wondering if there are any students out there into 60's stuff? My friends are great but we are always at a bit of a war when it comes to music. I'm really into Dylan, Stones, Nick Drake, Van Morrison, Neil Young etc. There must be some like minded people!...

I like a bit of Early Pink Floyd (syd barret era, aka mid to late 60s)

Van Morrison yup! Bit of the Beatles doesnt go a miss, not a lover of the stones though, more of a Led Zeppelin lover.

hmmm Sheffield has quite a good indie/rock scene but doesn't really cater for 60's/70's stuff. Brighton Beach was good but even that has finished now

The first LP I was ever bought was The Merseybeats! My dad bought it me from Woolworths and I still have it. The cover is a bit tattered but it still plays ok.

Ooh, someone mentioned Alice Cooper. I was brought up on Alice Cooper. He played in Guildfest last year. (Guildford Music Festival). Unfortunately they followed him up with Atomic Kitten.

How rude is that?

Anyone got any advice on which Nick Drake album to buy? I'm always hugely confused when looking at new music, its very easy to buy their crap albums first and not know.

Chris.

He only released 3 albums while alive and they're all amazing (Five Leaves Left, Bryter Layter and Pink Moon).

The first two have the edge over the last one, purely because Pink Moon was basically just a collection of rough demos, with not much in the way of production (great though the songs are).

After he died a posthumous album of demos Time Of No Reply appeared. It's OK, but get the others first.

Since then there have been a few albums of really early (pre-Five Leaves Left) material issued, none of which are of much interest.

If in doubt get one of the Island compilations, such as An Introduction To Nick Drake and take it from there.

Thanks, yeah. :) I try to avoid best of's, they kind of ruin it for when you get the other albums.

Unbelievably the BBC couldn't work out what this song was about and didn't ban it.

I ADORE '60s music. One of my favourite eras. Plus I love all that Psychedelic malarkey around that time and the early '70s. Yay!
