View Full Version : I need to make a confession people
I need to get this off my chest to spare myself from becoming very upset.. something happened tonight while I was coming home from Badminton that has made me feel very sick with guilt.
The car I was a passenger in ran over a cat on the way back into Hackenthorpe- we tried to swerve to avoid it, but it hit the cat and it made a right bang under the car.
I feel sick and very tearfull as I write this as I hate any harm or cruelty inflicted on any animals so to have this happen is horrible for me.
I got out of the car and had a look for the cat but I could not find it so I am hoping and praying it is safe and well.
God I feel ill :(
With all due respect Angelus and not meaning to be flippant, the Cat will probably be fine, it's got at least 8 lives left.
I'm off for another look in the next 5 mins because I wont be able to sleep tonight unless I know the cat is not injured up the road - so peeps in hackenthorpe please look out for a balding gentleman waddling up the road in mufc shorts and a nike top looking around the road and the bushes- its not a peeping tom or a pervert... its just me.

i hope you start to feel a little better about this soon :)
If you hit it and its managed to run away its probably alright. Cats are fairly resilient.
sTaGeWaLkEr 25-04-2006, 21:34 This once happened to me and I felt really bad all week!
Hopefully, the cat will be ok.
Try to think positively! :(

I would never let a passenger in my car who
1. Played Badminton
2. Wore MUFC Shorts with a Nike Top
3. Went out late at night down Hackenthorpe
4. Wasn't a Peeping Tom or denied being a pervert with a cat fixation
Finger's crossed, I hope I haven't misread this OP'er, one "Blakey" to be precise.................. :)
mistyraven 25-04-2006, 21:57 Yea poor bloke will be in shock.
I once hit a dog it went right under the car then ran off. I sat there for a while in shock. The dog was ok thankgod.
rubydazzler 25-04-2006, 22:01 I hate to tell you this but when a cat is hit by a car, being so light, they're usually hit on the head and flung aside. If you can't see them nearby when you stop it's because reflexes keep them running for maybe a 100 yards and then they keel over, dead from a brain haemorrhage (sp?). It wont have suffered, honestly. That's what our vet told us when we found our cat dead by the door :(
It was an accident Angelus, not really your fault ... try not to feel too bad about it. They do seem to have a death wish sometimes the way they run out and then when you swerve they run back under the car!
PS be careful you don't get staked, poking about in the bushes, if you look anything at all like your namesake .... :P
edit to say - just reread that and I'm not really helping am i? sorry - goes off with lip firmly buttoned.
sufc_tom 25-04-2006, 22:01 once this absolute moron kid (from firth park naturally) ran out of nowhere infront of me. luckily reactions times was on my side that day and i narrowly missed him i went through a rollercoaster of emotions from being grateful he is ok, to wanting to jump out and beat him to death with his own shoes, to shock and fear of "what if" and the moral questions that follow suit.
Moonbird 25-04-2006, 22:07 Sorry to hear what happened Angelus, animals just have no road sense, its not your fault try not to beat yourself up to much about it.
I hope you find the cat and it is ok:)
StarSparkle 25-04-2006, 22:13 Oh God, Angelus, I'm so sorry to hear about this :( It's the kind of thing I DREAD happening whenever I'm travelling in a car.
I hope the cat was ok, but if not, you must remember it was an accident and that these things do happen. You weren't even driving - it wasn't your fault. You're bound to be feeling shock and reaction at the moment, but that will pass.
Sending good thoughts your way. Take care.

shoeshine 25-04-2006, 22:16 ANGELUS can't answer just now. Maybe, in the morning when the cops let him out for impersonating a TV Bus Inspector in MUFC Shorts and Nike Top............:hihi:
Heyup- so my magical night of fun and frolics just gets better and better- although after having a search about- I cant find any trace of the cat- but knowing my night tonight, its possibly lying dead on someone's garden right now.
I feel like utter crap now- and I did so well at badminton as well!

miniminch 25-04-2006, 23:23 I look at it this way - given half a chance a cat would run over you! Pussy Driving Licences are a bad idea - Tony Blair!

not meain any harm here, but if you went over it with a right bump surely it still crnt be alive, although miricles can happen
itll be up screeching this morning with all the other toms telling tales of how it took on a bloke in MUFC shorts and showing off his war wounds.
more animals survive rta's these days cos there's no prop shaft spinning under the car -assuming it's small enought to misss the bumpera obviously.
more importantly where do you play badders -i'm looking for a new club for next season.??
Good on you for being concerned!
It's a horrible feeling to hit or even almost hit an animal. I once swerved across a road in Scotland to avoid a huge hare that headed out in front of me - my instinct to save the animal was greater than my own survival instinct! And I once almost hit a dog, it was so close he disappeared under the car - a dog off the lead, too. the owner went white and he never let his dog off the lead after that!
Did you look under the car? Could it have got trapped there? :(
babychickens 26-04-2006, 10:56 cats have no road sense, and it was an accident - i know that doesn't stop you feeling rubbish (we ran over a cat once, i've been giving money to the cpl ever since), but there's nothing you could have done to avoid it happening.
sorry to say, but even if it ran off it probably died somewhere else. one of the horrible things that keeps me awake at night is noises from drunk people outside my house when i don't know where the cats are, i really do have an unpleasant imagination. one of the things that doesn't worry me so much is the thought that someone might run over one of them - even if they do manage to keep moving initially they'd die quickly somewhere quiet and safe, which is more than a lot of people can look forward to.

I looked a right weirdo last night hunting around in bushes and around the roads- I was expecting a police car to come tearing up the road towards me as well because a few curtains were twitching!!

1Man&hisBMW 27-04-2006, 01:37 I have driven over a cat in my car with a bootful of stuff, and it still ran off so i wouldnt worry about it. I am now doubting the build quality of the car.
