Anyone managed to watch lunar eclipse yesterday? I’ve heard it was rather foggy last night in the UK, but who knows.

For those of you who’ve missed this -- approximately at 7 PM UTC the full moon started turning into half, overlapped left to right by the shadow of the Earth. We cast a shadow! Then right at 8PM UTC, midnight here in Russia, it turned into full dark-brown shiny circle with little glow around. It’s like watching heavenly body through photo film. Mysterious, black sky. Ah these tricks of nature!

Within an hour it was allright again. No accidents just fine experience.

Hi everyone, hi vampy,

is it true that one couldn't make a proper photo of the moon with an ordinary camera, no matter digital or not?

I mean I've heard it would come out too small on the picture, much smaller than the real moon you normally could see. It is due to some atmosperic things, so you need extra equipment to get a good authentic picture/landscape.

Sorry I may be wrong, I'm not a pro :)

 ooh, there's a hard question ...

have to say i'm not too sure, i've never tried that.
to get a decent picture of the moon, you'd need a really really amazing camera + the same for lenses + filters.
as far as the atmosphere coming into it, i really don't know but i'll try and find out for you :)
