There's no way battery farms should be allowed. GrahamY 20-05-2003, 18:52 Thanks, Sidla. Please sign the petition in the link. I once visited a battery farm on a college fieldtrip and just could not believe that farmers could possibly be treating living creatures in such away and getting away with it. The first impression was a stench of ammonia so strong that it almost took your breath away. The birds never saw daylight and were subjected to continuous low level lighting to make them lay more. Then they were crammed in the little cages. I never knowingly ate an egg after that unless it was free range. Miss_60 21-05-2003, 09:14 FREE RANGE unfortunately does not necessarily mean that chickens are running around the place ......some "free range" farms don't afford that much space to chickens and still class them as free range which is disgusting Tony Ruscoe 21-05-2003, 10:32 Originally posted by "Miss_Sixty" FREE RANGE unfortunately does not necessarily mean that chickens are running around the place ......some "free range" farms don't afford that much space to chickens and still class them as free range which is disgusting And some free range farms still cut the beaks off the chickens... Done :) owdlad 29-03-2009, 07:22 Well, this didn't get much support from the lovies and lefties did it:confused: Coming up to Easter and hardly anyone bothers about the poor little chicks:rolleyes: blurt 29-03-2009, 08:23 when it comes between welfare and profit, profit tends to win. ive also noticed a lot of food taste,s bland these days Bedders 29-03-2009, 14:53 when it comes between welfare and profit, profit tends to win. ive also noticed a lot of food taste,s bland these days Yes it does, you're right, utterly tasteless! Whilst we're on the subject what about battery pigs! The E.U has yet to ban them but the UK have. I'm not joking some of the E.U. countries such as Denmark etc still use battery cages for pigs. It can't itch itself,it can't turn around, it eats its own s*it, it goes mad and starts shaking, it ends up with lack of exercise & muscle wastage that it can'e even support it's own weight & it gives birth 'stood up' in one of these things!!!!! I'm no lefty, far from it I can tell you. I like my meat, eggs, chicken etc but the acts of some breaders has left a sour taste in my mouth! To ensure you don't participate in this cruel practice look for the Union Jack on your packs of bacon or RSPCA Freedom foods symbol...........Please! andrejuan 29-03-2009, 15:16 I'd like to get my own hens, does anyone know how practical that is and if there are any rules? The thought of well fed happy hens giving eggs at there own pace appeals to me. dan_999uk 29-03-2009, 15:30 "Eglu" urban chicken coops (http://www.omlet.co.uk/homepage/homepage.php) andrejuan 29-03-2009, 16:12 "Eglu" urban chicken coops (http://www.omlet.co.uk/homepage/homepage.php) Thanks, very interesting, you've got me going now  msbehavin 31-03-2009, 11:27 Andrejuan, I have recently taken on 10 ex battery hens and thoroughly recommend it to anyone.
