Last night was coming in from work about 11pm and a silver car was driving up and down our road. When I got in my mum said that it had been up and down all night with loud music on and the tyres screeching.

Next thing I knew the girl in the car had reversed up my road (its a cul-de-sac) and reversed into our wall and knocked all the wall down!!! The gate had also fell down and scratched my car.

Obviously the car sped off but she had the cheek to come up our road again (her family live on our road). We went over to the car to get the reg number and she got out and started threatening. We'd already called the police, but they didn't turn up until an hour later.

This is the second time our wall has been knocked down and now we have to pay for it, yet again, through no fault of our own:rant:

Well if you witnessed it and the Police have the reg number cant you claim from them? Surely the police will have seen the damage to the car?

The damage isn't that bad to the car, the problems is that they're gypsies

Holly

Ask the Police to check the Motor Insurance Database; if the car is now insured than the insurance company has a legal obligation to pay for the damage to your property, this is because you are a third party.

If the vehicle is not insured, you may still be able to claim under the RTA <Road Traffic Act> and the company that insured the vehicle last may still be liable.

Hope this helps, feel free to drop me a PM if you need any more info and hope you get it sorted!

Can the wall not be repaired on your house insurance?

And if it's not insured, be sure to tell the police which house they were visiting so they can track them down. And if you see them again, call the police to tell them there's a driver without insurance on the road.

Yes it can be but we claimed on the insurance before as the wall had to be knocked down, but why should we have to claim when it wasn't our fault

what an awful situation to be in, i really do feel for you. I must admit certain people in the community have a law all unto themselves!! or think they have!!!! the time it took for the police to arrive is disgraceful sheffield policing seems so slack compared to other parts in the country id like to know why??? i hope everything gets sorted out for you and the person in the car gets the book thrown at them.

Did you call the police on 999?

hollymai

yes we did, three times because she was threatening us. Another neighbour also called the police.

It summed it up when you mentioned they are gypsies. They seem to think they have a different law :loopy:

is it worth putting in a complaint to the head of the police?

You're just causing more trouble for yourself though arn't you, but they can't just get away with things like this. One of the neighbours said that the police have arrested someone.

That's a disgraceful response time for a vehicle being driven in a destructive, dangerous manner - made even worse if the driver of the vehicle was threatening. I'd definitely be putting a complaint in to the Police for that.

I have just sent a complaint to the police via email about their response time and how gypsies have got a law unto themselves

I think they'll be round pretty quick now, probably to arrest you for racism against 'pikeys', erm sorry, 'gypos', hmm gypsys... errr (looks at the PC A-Z) oh i know... 'travellers of an alternative lifestyle who would pay tax if they could'

gypsies or not, they are still liable, the police should tell you what they are charging them with, when it gets to court your solicitor should ask for compensation to cover the repair to the wall

The PC name is "travellers", calling them gypsies these days could get you arrested!

And they do have their own laws - if any "normal" person decided to camp out and dump their rubbish on private property, they'd be taken to court. But as soon as they claim to be travellers the police can't touch them because they'd claim harrassment - and it's more trouble for the police than it's worth. They could literally get away with murder if they wanted to...
